I love the cop at the beginning who says he doesn't want to have to go home at the end of the day knowing that he's shot somebody who had a toy in his pocket. No shit? Really? How about shooting someone who has a real gun in their pocket? WTF? In their pocket? He's actually worried he might shoot somebody for having something in their pocket? If that is the cop's decision making abilities, then he shouldn't be a cop and certainly shouldn't be carrying a gun (to trigger happy for me).

I think he was more referring to someone having a gun in their posession..
As I dont think(or at least hope) any cop is stupid enough to shoot someone who doesnt have a weapon drawn. Then again, around here (Burnaby/Vancouver) with the amount of gang shootings lately, who knows, they might not want to take any chances at all. |

I think the point the cop was trying to say, was, He would feel even worse for shooting a kid with a toy gun pointed at him than a real gun pointed at him.
YES he will feel bad for shooting a kid, but he will feel bad for making the wrong decision for it being a toy. Yes it was the right decision to make by law, but his conscience will get the best of him I vote for a license for replica guns, to own or buy |

I don't view this as complete sensationalist article. It does bring certain points about our status. While I don't support ban, I support what Brian said, license it. For the people who wants they will still smuggle across the border. If one makes it same level as a Non Restricted License, people would think twice, and perhaps choose live firearms instead.

I would agree if it wasn't for the fact that this piece was designed as a fear mongering report on the "problem" with replica firearms. I agree with the things Brian said, but honestly I think his little bit was one of the only well-done parts of this entire report.

You know we just have to look at pot to see that banning it doesn't make it go away. You can actually draw so many parallels with pot and airsoft.

lol, except I don't think airsoft is responsible for a huge amount of organized crime in this country. Unless of course they make playing airsoft illegal

I think there are enough examples that gun control and banning guns on the Web, hell even YouTube will bring up numerous amount of interviews and reports of the failure of gun control.
My favourite video is "Criminals for Gun Control Part 1" |

There was lots said that never made it into the show.. I managed to stay on message well enough that even with all the cutting.. what I wanted to say came out.
Its easy to say this was a "negative" peice .. and that the CBC "had an agenda" After talking to the producer for an hour on the phone before I agreed to let them in to FACT to interview me I felt that he was simply trying to get to the bottom of the irrational regulations governing imitation guns. He had done some research ( quite a bit of it on ASC ) and wanted to show "responsible people having fun with imitation guns" As a counterpoint to the BAN position posited by SOME of the police" You note that the officer from Durham region who was instrumental in getting their 18+ possession bylaw passed stated clearly " I have no problem with responsible use in the proper place" I don't really think that public exposure of AS in main stream media serves our interest. However when Media focuses specifically on AS and imitation guns as this story did, I do think it is important to have the proper perception presented. That is why I agreed to the interview and agreed to let them video some of the action. The next thing to do is find out who is in the government working group mentioned in the story and get talking to those people. Does anyone know anything about this working group?

The last group that I know of getting any assistance from local airsofters were a joined task force from RCMP and CFC official, Wilson from SD-unit along with some of the older suppliers ie. Peter Kang have sent them quite an arsenal both stock and upgraded for their so called "testing" this was back in 2002/2003. Included in that batch of AEG were several really upgraded M4 and PSG1 owned by several airsofters here and several gas guns (including 2 of my JAC) this was sent as to prove that the GBB were not capable to fire live rounds, as claimed by one of the CFC officer. We never heard from them again and later on they wouldn't even take his call.

They should have skipped the second segment (with the she-man) and expanded the replica story to the full show. It needed to be quite a bit deeper to be a well-told story.

They don't want to go deeper. Going deeper would require people to look at the issue rationally.

Just finished watching this. It's actually kind of sad. What a negative, irrational piece that I refuse to even call journalism.
