I had one, and I will stay away forever now.
KWA rifle is nice until it breaks. The stock hop-up unit, barrel group and nozzle are not compatible with anything. Mine had the hop-up unit damaged, and it didn't work with either a TM unit, JG unit or CA unit. I ended modifying a TM unit to make it usable, and use an aftermarket nozzle (Prometheus). The mechbox itself is not that bad, but the trigger switch contacts are uber crap. Under 1000 rounds on 9.6v mini and there was a hole in the contacts. Again, not compatible without modifications with other brands. I used a modified Action replacement, but had to modify the pin holes placement to make it align properly with the mechbox. Other than that, the mechbox is good. Internals other than what was described are decent. I have yet to get a SRC, but from what I have gathered online and from second hand, it is WAY better than the KWA. I also find the large KWA hand guard useful, but ugly as hell. |

I have owned and gamed the only AEG I have ever purchased an ICS going into the sixth year. Over a five year period of fairly constant play, I am on my second piston as well as my second set of gears; the only other problem I have had is a tappet plate breakage and an air nozzle that failed at the same time, both parts being original.
I have never been sorry that I chose the brand that I did.

i can confirm ICS's hop-ups are garbage. If it breaks, you cannot use anything from TM. I ordered an Prometheus metal hop-up chamber upgrade, thinking to upgrade my ICS M4 but no, not only it does not fit but they are also different ;(
ICS is not worth it anymore since you have SRC as choice. Both are clones, why not go with the one that has most candies?

The piston blew up for me and I've been using a stock Well R6 piston.. Waiting till that blows up. I've had my ICS since Oct 24th and it's been gamed around 12 times with 20,000 rounds shot through it and I must say it's a beast.
But can ICS m4s fill regular stocks as well and handguards? |

Actually, it is the first company to make an AEG that was not 100% based on the design from TM. Also, TM-type hop-up unit are EASY to fit. You basically just need to file the front reinforcement of the feeding tube. Metal units are square, you need the front part to be round and close to the tube. Also use a TM/aftermarket nozzle when switching hop-ups and you are good to go. Quote:
The newer ICS can fit any handguard ever. You can fit most pistol grips, but you have to file down the front vertical edge about 1-2 mm for a perfect fit. For stocks, you have to modify the stock prong, or use an ICS buffer tube. Stock prong is made tappered towards the end. That causes most buffer tubes to get stuck about 1/2" from the end of it. You can file down the two tabs to make them thinner and narrower. That is a permanent mod and allows you to fit both ICS and other stocks.

For my thoughts, I would go for the ICS. If you compare what links you have provided for us, the ICS comes with more for less. The ICS C-15 comes with a Ready Mag, Quick Detach Silencer, RIS with foregrip and battery according to the description for 365$. The large stock can accommodate a large battery vs. the G36 that is limited with its smaller handguard. The G36 looks like it just comes with the regular AEG accessories for $380. Also looking from your standpoint, shipping may be cheaper from MACH1 as you're in Ontario as well.
The ICS split gearbox system is pretty robust. I have 2 ICS M16 AEGs (One is a Colt and the other Olympic)at this moment and have never had Gear problems. My Olympic uses an estimated equivalent of an M120 spring and was used as a loaner gun for friends. I've had one piston problem though, quite recently, which corroborates most of the others' opinions on the gun. The nice thing about the ICS is that you can buy upper receivers that you can quick change for different applications. I have a Carbine and CQB upper receiver set for my ICSs. The nice thing bout the C-15 is that it also is rear wired so you don't have to worry about the wiring up front when changing handguards or uppers. ICS M16 uppers also have a different thread size for their delta rings. It will require re-threading for other makes. Madbull has a die for 31.8mm diameter by 1.5mm thread pitch to correct for ICS and G&P as well. Anyways, I hope this helps you in your decision making. Also forgot to mention, the new style ICSs, well at least the two I have owned have slightly larger magazine wells. They will take virtually any AR15 magazine. ICS magazines of course work, Marui, King Arms SIG Arms 556, STAR plastic mids, Classic Army Hi Caps, MAG 190 Mids , STAR 150 Round Vietnam short mids, and a few other from what I recall. My former CA M15A4 had trouble with STAR Plastic midcaps. Last edited by smurata1; January 23rd, 2010 at 02:43.. |
