Thankfully I've always tried to spend wisely and it looks as though won't have to trade guns for rent. I even had enough extra to buy myself a birthday present this past week.

Do be aware that many of the PTWs that are sold began life as a kit. It is not uncommon for an unexperienced person to try to save some money by buying a kit. While the kits themselves are fairly straight forward, the tolerances of the gun are exacting. Little errors can make big problems that can cost a lot of cash to overcome. That's not to say all the guns for sale are broken kits, but it can put a scare on a player when a simple mistake can cost you $250 to replace a board or a cylinder.
Internally, there is no better electric BB projecting system on the planet than a well kept PTW, but they are precision machines and can require precision handling which isn't always as common as the number of guns out there. The price/performance ratio is certainly not for everybody, but its fun while one can justify the cost

I would guess that some guys are moving on to other things, but in my instance, it's "retirement" that has driven the sale of my PTWs.
Like Pirate has said, there are alot of variations out there in the condition and functionality of PTWs. If you guys could see all the guns that have crossed my bench in the last couple of years, the condition ranges from pristine to shocking. I have some pics of the worst ones, and they leave you saying "WTF, how could you do that to a gun". More than once, guys have bought a $1500 kit package, only to find a cracked receiver, dud electronics, bad motor, torn hop-up rubber, poor assembly, poor packaging (and subsequant damage in shipping), you name it. There sometimes are good deals to be had, but you need to be fussy and vigilant in getting all the info on the gun in question. Sometimes, you might see a gun listed at $3000, but factor in the level of accessories, optics, etc., and the price climbs very quickly.

Ok, cool, now I understand better. Me too when i was a younger airsoft collector I wanted a systema, just to see what was a 1500$ usd weapon. But I think personnaly that there is no other Professionnal Training Weapon than a GBBR, since they are more realistic in function

I got one across my bench that I couldn't even disassemble, it has so much brass/steel/alloy corrosion.
I still have the pics. It never failed due to moisture, in fact, it was working when I got it. I won't mention who owned this one, to save him/her the embarassment:

Here's another gem. This lower was sent to me in a CP envelope, the fibre-filled one. It was blasted open 3 times, and was dutifully re-taped by CP:
  The battery was twisted, and it took me 2 hours to tear the entire thing down, clean it, regrease and reassemble it before I could even mod the motor. Notice all the fibre dust on the lower, well, it was everywhere, in copius amounts.
