Would a Li-po Battery be safe on a stock CA G36K?

Safe, yes.
Although over time you may see some issues with the anti-reversal latch being really shitty in that old of a CA V3 mechbox. At least mine was. I needed to replace it after running a 9.6V 3300 through it. An 11.1V 1200 or 1600 LiPo would probably have the same effect. After installing the Helical Torque-up Gear set from CA, the mechbox worked beautifully. Remember, it's not the LiPo itself putting strain on the mechbox - it's the fact you're running an 11.1V battery. Period. Some guns will wear over time - it's to be expected. |

Lipo batteries are no different than any other battery, except for size and your selected voltage. If you are used to running an 8.4v large battery that uses quality cells, you won't notice any wonderful ROF difference by going to a 7.4v lipo. Many large batteries can discharge 30-35 amps, and so can lipo. I have had NiMH that exhibited no signs of depletion until the last couple of shot before it died (in an heavily upgraded gun).
I have NiCads that run strong, no memory after 1 1/2 years of solid use. If you take care of them, and don't use a shitty charger, any decent battery will outlast any gun by years and years. Don't expect that buying an 11.1v lipo will destroy every gun all the time, nor that every gun is capable of it. You wouldn't use a 12v battery in most guns, so why would 11.1v be OK? The limit for most guns is 9.6v, beyond that you get into problems with the speed of components inside the gearbox, which rely both on the rotational rate of the motor and the strength of springs to return components to their rest positions. Fuck with these, and problems will happen. The only reason I see to go lipo, is due to space considerations. They have no more performance benefit when space is not a factor, but for many guns, that is the main consideration.

You can get Li-Ion cells in 9.6v configuation. But the drain rate is awefull. Not better than a mini type.
There will be soon an alternative to using 11.1v LiPo... I am working on a nice projet, just waiting for the last components... |
