the tm famas is a fucking great weapon although the mechbox is not the most fun to work on as you have to strip the entire fucking gun apart to get at it mostly

i actually miss having mine
it was my first aeg and i modded the shit out of it
i made it effectively into a fully auto sniper, with the barrel length of a psg1
the only thing that could have ever made that gun sexier would have been a removable carry handle to make it a low riser instead and maybe a metal body or a more solid aftermarket kit of polymer

I bought my FAMAS back in may and I love the thing. It's a tank. It is a bit creaky and look very plastic but that's nothing that a few thin strips of sheet steel and a coat of Krylon can't fix.

And yes, from personal experience the mechbox is a bitch to work on.

I believe the Famas was one of the first AEGs TM produced.
Ive never owned or used one, but I can see why some folks can beak about it, I know theres not a whole hell of alot of upgrades externally, but well you have to remeber, AEGs all work on the same premise, battery powered motor drives gears that move the piston to compress a spring to fire a BB with air. Really theres not a whole hell of a lot you need to do if you want to upgrade it, new spring, bushings, spring guide and a tighter barrel is more than enough.
Hell you can probly just go with spring and bushings if you wanna cut the costs down even more. In the end its all opinion I guess.

As much as I love my TM FAMAS I'd wait until G&G releases their's before buying one. I'm sure theirs won't have the creek or crappy plasticy feel. Just a crappy mechbox.

Many players in France don't want to play with a Famas F1 but many players in France are started with a Famas. It's a good gun for newbie or comfirmed players. I started also to play softair with a Famas in 2001 and continued to play many timeswith it. Now i have many other guns but i'm a lover to the Famas. French attitude.

Sorry for my english but i started to learn.

your english is great, i only saw one point needing correction; in north america it's AIRSOFT not SOFTAIR
when refering to softair we tend to be talking about the cheap clear plastic spring airsoft guns

Way better then my french and it is also our national language

That is not a FAMAS at all...

I think you are mixing FA-MA and Bullup.

A FAMAS is a bullup design, just like that L85 you postes. It means that the magasine and firing chamber is behind the trigger.

A FAMAS is the French military rifle. A L85 is the British counter-part.

I am going to wait for G&G since they have one planned for 2008. I know G&G has good exterior, but bad internals, but that could easily be upgraded...and who knows it might be a second G&G into the collection....

Thanks for my english !

Ok for Airsoft. In france we said Airsoft also.
One question please : How many you buy a Famas in your country ??
And if you buy an Airsoft, Where are you buy it: Canadian retailers or import retailers ???
I leave near Paris in Orleans and my retailers sell Famas F1 Marui 299€ with a battery and battery charger with a tactical vest.

Y say it's not the good topics for questions about retailing but y try...:smack:

See you later !!!

Here's a suggestion for newbies who want to buy a gun beore having any idea about airsoft:

Go to a few games and RENT something. Try as many guns as possible. Then and only then, make your decision from a far more informed point of view.

If not, cope with your choices.
