Agreed, but on a serious note:
Right now, it seems an airsoft revolution is underway. All these companies are comming out with these TM copies that are half the cost. So far, echo 1 seems to be the only one that seems up to par, I dunno about the rest, but it seems to me more and more and being pumped out at higher quality? I myself decided to make a long term investment myself in airsoft (if that even exists) and decided to look for something of quality that I could keep for longer time. I actually decided to buy the VFC AKS model. But dont limit yourself to jsut TM. In fact, for what you get in other companies such as CA, sometimes, its a better deal. Research what you want ALOT, and dont rush to buy things your 100% about. Else you be like me, buy an m4 as your first gun, and a week later, realized you wanted an m4 RIS.. and spend alot more doing that.

On that note of not limiting yourself to TM. Every company has its flaws that means their guns don't last as long as a stock TM gun for durability. CA's have brittle pistons so your gun will go down and you will have to buy a replacement part and send it off to a gun doc, G&P have crappy tappet plates, G&G have crappy many things depending on which model it is, etc. Sure TM only shoot 280fps and have plastic spring guides and bushings but even at that they will still outlast any other companies gun on the market without needing to be opened up for maintenance for a lot longer. If you know of a local gun doc that doesn't have a long waiting list normally and have a speedy supplier for parts (ASCA for example, something in Canada) then your good. But if your one and only gun goes down because the piston stripped or the tappet plate broke or the mechboxes seized and you don't have easy access to a gun doc then your SOL. The TM clone companies like Echo1/Jing Gong do make really decent clones of TM guns but I highly doubt they will last nearly as long as a stock TM without internal maintenance/repair because of quality control and general quality of parts. This damn sport is addictive as heroin and just as expensive. As for a starter weapon go with a armalite of what ever looks good to you, they are the same, I got a CA33E and its been flawless to me and its a good platform for different styles of combat. FiXt! :P |

I think I will try to budget for 1500$-2000$. My warhammer armie's are all almost tourney size, and I have university worked out already wit parents. I like the sound of the m14's performance, the only think that'd bug me about it is it's ROF for a rifle.

how did all you guys get away with spending so little, in the last 2 years I stopped counting my cost at $7000 I estimate i am around $10,000 now.
But I do have 11 aug mags for example |

I started in May and now have well over 10 guns. I cry when I start to add up how much I have spent so try not too.
If your not a trigger happy guy then I wouldn't worry about ROF. You can always 9.6v battery if you really want to increase the ROF. |

It's not that I'm worried about a lack of ROF. I just might feel weird shooting full auto with a rifle that's supposed to be semi-auto. But I think I'll get over it. Are there any other good TM AEG series that are accurate?

Every TM is pretty reasonably accurate. Where you see major differences is range, you will need to decide if most of your play will be CQB or outdoors and then choose a weapon that would suit what style of play you are going to engage in more........... or buy a CQB weapon and an outdoor weapon, and then you will need a support gun, and a Armalite becuase everyone else has one, and then a side arm, and a MP5 becuase you tried your buddies.........ect, it won't stop trust me

Now that is interesting. I have a hard time imagining it, but it fixes my problem. I thought it was just a modern garand. I've heard they're not very good for urban battles though. Maybe I should get a more popular assault rifle,a nd that a vsr. Dunno.

the m21 is a semi auto sniper based on the m14, the m24 is a bolt action sniper based on the m700

I just got into airsoft no more than 6 months ago. I purcahsed a Sig552 Seals for CQB and mid-range batles, and I have a M16 on it's way for the "reach out and touch somebody" factor. You have to think about where you are going to be playing most of the time. I am located just outside of the GTA so making it out to Flag Raiders every other Saturday, or even Wasaga once and a while isn't that big of a deal for me, but you have to look at your options. Obviously if you're going to be playing CQB or at intermediate ranges 80% of the time, maybe that M14 long rifle isn't the best choice.
As far as gear goes, start with a good set of BDU's, and then experiment. Try everything on at surplus stores and try to get a feel for what you like (webbing vs. tac vests for example). Personally I am a fan of the RAV, but since I don't have $300+ to drop on a plate carrier right now (I am also a university student) I am currently settling with a chest rig. It's about shopping around and playing with your arrangement until you get what you really like; which is what makes it fun to do. I'm glad to hear that you've talked to your parents about university already, I do suggest living at home if at all possible since it'll cut your yearly bill down by over half. Anyways, that's my 2 cents, and welcome to the community.
