Now having your gun out in public for everyone to see is a HUGE no no and highly recommended that you don't. But because this is part of a costume and a lot of people will have some type of weapon, I think it should be ok. BUT, only have it out to be viewed while indoors at the convention and in costume. Other wise, it should be left in a case/bag and out of sight from the general public. Having the orange tip will reduce the chance of a soccer mom freaking out. But not having it is not against the law. Remove the gearbox if you can and leave the mag out until you are taking a photo or something. Be safe and don't ever point the muzzle at anyone or thing while walking around. Keep it pointed down is the best bet. Just don't be stupid.
and that's exactly what I do. I pose with it at a convention, while taking all the precautions to make sure it doesn't look like I have the intention to endanger another.

Yes I understand there are guns made out of paper (saw some made out of cardboard too) but I have neither the skill nor the time to undertake such endeavors.

And I'm 26 (well above the legal age to buy airsoft)

Pretty vague for Anime North though. http://teahouseofthemaplemoon.yuku.c...tions-Question

Something about plastic being allowed, but not full metal...

except I never planned to go to Anime Expo, so it doesn't apply.

frankly I don't see how some people can be afraid of someone in a costume posing for a bunch of photographer. In exchange for possibly getting in trouble, I get some realism in photos, play it safe and I get stuck with a paper gun. You can't have it both ways. You can be mature about it and use it properly to great effects, or you can dick around with it and get in trouble.

In life, you always pay for the morons who ruin it for all the others.

Deal with it, it'll be like that for the rest of your life.

No, you said you planned on going to Fan Expo, whatever the hell that is. And I posted *their* rules on weapons. So fine, listen to people here or don't, no one cares. But if you try to break the convention's rules that are clearly stated on their website, well then that's just idiocy.

I apologize for my stubbornness, but please understand that it was only because I wanted to find a solution to keep it safe and to use it at the same time. It wasn't meant to give airsoft player a bad rap.

this wouldn't have turned into a rant if you guys would just help me with the cap problem. Why do you think I want to get the cap in the first place? the purpose of the cap itself is to let law enforcement to know its not a real gun (and if they need further inspection that's fine) doesn't that tell you that I want to abide by the safety instead of getting misunderstood?

Before I got the airsoft, I watched people who take them to convention. only after observing a ton of people being able to go about their business without much trouble did I finally bought my airsoft. it wasn't because I wanted to appear as another bloke on the block with a gun looking for trouble, I just thought it would make a great prop for costumes.

Nevertheless, you guys are right on some points. I will definitely look into alternatives before diving head first and land into a bunch of trouble. Thanks.

My personal rule for anything is to ask myself what would happen if I took it to an airport. If I'd be able to safely walk around the terminals without any issues, then it's probably fine. If the object would get the airport locked down or result in a SWAT team being called, then I know to keep it in a locked case and out of the public eye.

If you have to ask, then the answer is no.

VicViper,

You asked a question and were given answers - sorry they are not the ones you had expected, but they are the correct answers nonetheless.

Act stupid with an airsoft weapon and get treated accordingly.
