Bigger battery (either cell size or voltage) will increase ROF...completely separate from FPS (the speed of the BB coming out).

FPS is only (99%) affected by the stiffness of the main spring. Stiffer spring = higher FPS

There are a number of stickied articles here about "what to upgrade and why" etc. Mechbox.com has great How-To videos. Illusion has put together a chart of how fast certain springs will shoot. Might not be an absolute number for your specifc AEG...but it'll give you some items to compare.

Start with more research now that you have it narrowed down a bit.

Oh wow, mechbox.com really helped out, I love the step by step guidance videos.

So much info! I appreciate that.

Now im moving on to the battery selection. I understand that most airsoft batteries use 18awg wiring, however I also understand that everyone wants more battery power going to the motor, im wondering if i could get away with the 16awg wiring or if the difference is just insignifigant if you're using stock parts and upgrading the battery with the copper inserts

18AWG vs. 16AWG....if it'll fit...go for it. Some wires are just too thick to jam into the mechbox.

If your gun is LiPo ready, I noticed a change in ROF with a higher voltage LiPo compared to lower NiMh.

There's no such thing as "Lipo ready"

There's knowing what the battery will do to your box and if it can handle it.. but the whole "Lipo-ready" is just marketing.

It leads more to the readiness of a gun to handle the 11.1V that you find in 3-cell LiPo. To run 2-cell at 7.4V is not really a benefit, unless the physical size of the battery pack is the issue.

The ROF for semi-auto is an issue in most AEGs (except PTW) as the trigger lag experienced as the sector gear spools up the piston can be redused by increasing it's speed from no-load (when it's not in contact with the piston) to load (when it is pulling the piston back) and then onto the next cycle.

Sadly, this extra speed is a killer of pistons and gears if not done correctly. This means you don't use a 12V battery with a Marui gun with stock gears and an M120 spring.

The fuse in a system is to protect the whole system. If it's sized properly, it will do it's job and save your gun as well as your battery. Ever see what happens when you dead-short a battery? It usually means the death of the battery, as well as any damaged incurred on the wiring or contact points from excessive current discharge over a specified resistive load, like smaller-guage wiring, finger conacts on the selector plate, switch contacts, etc.

If you don't know exactly what you are doing, don't do it.
