Warning on the VFC bolt release
If anyone owns one of the new VFC M16/M4 weapons with the lock back bolt and actual working bolt release they need to be aware that when the upper receiver is separated from the lower they should never press the bolt release because when the receivers are separated it allows the bolt release to travel too far and this causes the spring to jump out of alignment with the cam that locks the bolt back. If this happens the gear box will have to be removed from the lower receiver to allow the spring to be repositioned.

Is that with the Ambi one only? I haven't noticed this on my 416.

Danke,
On the SR15 VFC labels the left side bolt release as part number SR15-CM-20 Left Bolt catch set. On the ambi ones the other side is listed as SR15-CM-14 right bolt catch set. Because I haven’t seen any of the ambi ones I can’t say if the right side can also cause the same trouble if it is pushed fully while the receivers halves are separated or not. The MK18 Mod 0 would be an example of the series I was addressing in my warning. I’m not sure about the ambi one because I haven’t studied those yet. But I think their all the same design as regards the cam that locks the bolt back which in the case of the VFC design is attached to the gearbox (unlike the King Arms type that is part of the lower receiver). This would also apply to the echo1 Platinum Edition or any other weapon with a lock back bolt made by VFC in the MLL series. So far I’ve had 16 of these brought in to get the spring re-formed and replaced back between the gearbox and the cam. The problem is nothing stops the cam from travelling past the point of where the spring can bend and pull out from between the cam and the gearbox. When the receivers are assembled you can only push the bolt release less than 1/16 of an inch in traveler but with the receiver halves separated the release can be pushed 3/16 of an inch which is enough to allow the problem as I outlined above. This problem won’t stop the weapon from firing but the bolt will no longer lock back until the weapon is dissembled and the parts resembled in the correct order.

Good thing I don't like figiting with it when it's in pieces. After about the fourth time the charm of taking the mechbox out fades.
