Aimpoint in China
Hello, I'm currently in mainland China, Shanghai as a matter of fact, just for the summer. I am planning on purchasing an Aimpoint for my 2 year old JG AUG, because running around with 3x magnification on my scope is rather irritating in close quarters...
I have located one, for a decent price of 250 RMB, about 40 CAD. The box tells me its G&P, and the quality looks like it could be. But I am well aware of the scandals that small storeowners in China will pull, and the amount of forging there is here. There are no numbers 1-6 on the knob, and the lens on the aiming end is red. It does however, have "Aimpoint" written in white letters, on the side, which I have not seen on any photos of G&P aimpoints I have found. What do you guys think of the authenticity of this product? I'm also looking at their Guarder 70% hardness hop up bucking for 35 rmb, about 6 CAD. Advice? Thanks! |

Not G&P, but if it works well why not...

Well which part(s) told you that it wasn't a G&P?
Any suggestions on identifying it? The scope mount looked like the kind G&P has though, and it fit perfectly in the G&P box |

There's probably 2 or 3 factories which produce those, which are sold as no-name, Unicorn, G&P, Matrix Tactical or whatever... those are OEMs and while external details are different (such as markings, which can be added to any) they can be the same, just non-rebranded = cheaper.
But they also may be different... while 99% equivalent.

Back in 2006 when I still lived in Shanghai, I got a JG G-36C for slightly less than 80 bucks US, when the pricing in the states was between 120-150 USD. This one was definitely a JG gun, the box is the same, the insides are the same, 380FPS stock according to a coke can, and it still runs today, although it's in the hands of a friend that still lives here. |

I was just unaware if these inconsistencies included having/not having "Aimpoint" written in white letters on the side. Last edited by pestobanana; August 5th, 2009 at 01:17.. |

Actually, there is plenty of G&P repro out there, sold at G&P prices.

Off hand, no, besides any products I would pull off of eBay and the likes would probably feature a stock G&P photo.
My personnal rule of thumb is to always buy my G&P products from known retailers (redwolf, UNC, WGC etc...). Not that it means the products you're considering are bad, they just aren't G&P. They might come from the same OEM factory though. Test it, if you like it, get it. Besides, no G&P Aimpoint ever featured trades, so unless it would be a regular model with "aftermarket" trades... But that would only raise it's price, which isn't the case here. |

Well, I guess I'll take another look at the Aimpoint, and if I can be sure the quality is on par, then I'll get it. Thanks for the help.
Oh yea, and one irrelevant question... My AUG has lost quite a bit of accuracy since it was stock, it used to get a 1cm grouping at 10 metres, but not it gets 2 inches... Could the problem be associated with 2 year old hop up rubber? If not, what else could be the culprit? |

Hop-up, hop-up bucking, dirty or damaged barrel, different ammo

Well I have cleaned the barrel many times, and the inside of the barrel is perfectly clean, and doesn't appear to be damaged. The BB's I have been using are the same ones that I have been using before. So should I assume that it's the hop up rubber and get some here?

I would defanitly replace the rubber. Its still the same one that came with your gun stock? The stock rubber on my JG felt like shit to me....
You can get them cheaply in canada though.
