Charger cable adaptor issue

Hi there, I've got a black and orange charger that I bought from ASC Armory back when they were open if anyone knows the one I'm talking about... I'll check the name when I get home. But about six months back my brother went to move it and accidently tore off the small silver banana plug that sticks into the charger from the adaptor cable. I stripped the end of the cable so I could still use it by just sticking the one banana plug in the red side and the black one is just the bare wire in the port to get connectivity. Now I don't see why I'd get a problem other than something like the cable lengths differing may fuck something up in the battery?

I'm asking because I charged my 8.4 mini 1400mAH NiMi battery that I bought brand new from BB Bastard a few months back and charged it the other day to use with my AEG. Charged it real slow. 0.5Amp for 3.5 hours, put it in my gun and it died withing.... 50-60 shots. I've had this problem with other batteries but figured they were just cheap shit batteries I had picked up off ebay when I first got into Airsoft... now I'm wondering if its my charger, or maybe the cable now thats messed up.

Any advice?
