Burst on Semi..

I have a Jing Gong M4 s-system (great gun but mines been nothing but trouble) and when its set to semi, it shoots random bursts. It started a month ago, and i've been trying to figure it out. Auto works fine, and safety works.

I wouldnt care if auto shot a burst, but i need my semi for accurate shots. Anyone know what is causing this or how i can fix it??

Hmm not sure. This is a very common issue amoung clone guns though. I think it has something to do with the cutoff lever wearing or something?

ya its cut off lever , seems the clones have pertty cheap soft metal ones .

The cutoff levers deep in the mechbox i assume? I know my way back and forward around airsoft guns, with the exception of the mechbox

I have an extra part to replace it..how big is this job for someone learning MB repair?

I don't think it can be replaced.

Again, I'm not 100% sure so don't take this as fact, but I think part of the cutoff assembly thingy is actually molded as part of the mechbox shell?

ahh, that could be. so i would have to get a new shell if thats the case.. i'll look into it. If anyone can confirm if it can/cant be fixed that would be great.

I'd rather wait until someone with much more knowledge than I about the internal workings of a mechbox replies before I speculate more.

You can replace the cut-off lever. It's a lever, therefore it is a separate, re/movable object from the mechbox. Assuming the issue isn't with the box itself interfering with the cut-off lever, there's nothing to stop its replacement.

Getting to the lever requires opening the mechbox, same as changing anything else inside. Replacement of the lever itself isn't hard, just make sure it isn't going to bind on anything else in there. You might want to reshim while you're inside, though.

Either I'm doing it wrong...or haven't figured out the clone mechboxes 100%...or they're just lousy...

but everytime I've replaced a worn "clone" cut-off lever (4 so far)...the mechbox has always been fiddly to get going again right. More often than not the switch assembly needed a bit of tweaking to get it to shoot semi properly...otherwise it would double fire on semi (the lever wasn't completely knocking off the switch on the first shot, but would on the second).

Frustrating as hell...

good to know. guess im in a little over my head. i might try it and then take the sorry wreck to a gunsmith if im screwed. Its a temp mechbox until i can get somthing better, but it will have to do for now.

Probably the fact they're made to lower tolerances the replacement parts just don't fit quite right.

i always re grease and get my gearbox reshimmed when i do any internal gearbox work , might as well your in there anyways.

Man, i still cant belive that airsofts only JUST on the verge of moving to gas piston assemblies.. They are so rediculously easy to work on and overhaul compared to mechbox's..not to mention durability.

We're actually moving back to gas piston assemblies, after largely abandoning the technology in the early 90s in favour of the convenience of non-gas systems.
