WE/Socom Gear Wilson Combat Review (Now with upgrades)

Yesterday afternoon when i was expecting another package, this showed up out of nowhere. (Mopic ships FAST) so as soon as i opened it and took a few shots with it i decided its time to do a small review. so here it is.
Gun itself came with two mags. 1911 with X200...hmmm...sexy..

Somehow there is a color difference on the mags...

The supposedly "real steel" grip pieces that has caused a lot of controversy at other forums. Now i can say its just a licensed copy of the real grips. The material is regular plastic instead of G10 Material. Still, the quality is pretty good considering its still a copy.

Very well textured. love the layers

Front end close up. Planning to switch out the barrel to a bull barrel to eliminate the chances of the bushing breaking. Plus the spring cap (will get into that later)

MADE IN TAIWAN!

The purdy magazine bottom plate

Another reason i would want to change the barrel is because, although its made of metal, the finish makes it feel really plastic like.

I would consider my Wilson Combat a Gen II 1911 from WE because iv heard people talking bout how they use to use long recoil guide rods that end up breaking the spring cap. So mine has the extra short one. I don't really like it per say but later ill have to swap it with a steel shooter design long recoil rod with a hollowed tip spring cap.

basic field strip. outer barrel is compatible with TM 1911/ Hi capa. Bushing is not. spring cap can be changed TM part also. planning to change out with the nova recoil spring cap with long recoil rod.

Now this gun is a real beast in terms of recoil and accuracy. For a full metal stock gun i really liked the feel and short trigger pull of this 1911. Now there are some cons though. For one the slide is not sized very well and has some wobble side to side, and the spring is weak as shit. you really will need to get a 150% spring to compensate for that shitty looseness. Grip pieces not real steel like they advertised although still better than other guns. plastic feeling outer barrel... and plus when you fill the mag with a less than half full tank of propane, you will only get 11 shots out of it. with a full tank of propane the pressure allows you to fill it to get 20-25 shots out of 1 mag.

Looks: 5/5 my favorite looking 1911 so far
Feel: 5/5 grips...
Power 5/5 its a beast
internals 2/5 could share more compatibility with TM or WA
Finish 3/5 could work on the finishes on some of the parts a little more
metel quality 2/5 pot metal shit. really hope there is some way to adapt a TM slide to fit it...aluminum FTW
Reliability N/A to be seen
Mopic service 5/5 lightning fast shipping

pretty much cooked myself with the lights trying to get these shots...but its worth it in the end lolz...

March 2009---------------------------------------------------------------

Now many of you who have questions as to what will fit the WE Wilson Combat or 1911s alike will have answers to at least "some" of your questions.

iv upgraded my Wilson combat with the SD bull barrel and hybrid Chamber(i dun like the wilson combat one that much) both for Marui hi-capas.

and as you can also see above there's the Nova spring guide and plug in there as well as the airsoft surgeon 140%(?) spring. The spring BTW fixes 80%-90% of the wobble found on most WE 1911s.

now the big question that we have been debating about is whether or not the nova stuff will fit the WE fine. the answer is YES. BUT theres a catch. it seems like WE made the slide a shy bit too short so that the barrel + spring cap + guide rod sticks out 1mm too much

Now for those of you like me who dun really care..it runs as a great system even with it protruding a tiny bit like so

i love this barrel + chamber setup.

Now, with people that want to retain the authentic 1911 style with the bushing and all that it is a tough question as to whether or not the Nova spring plug for the 1911 with bushing will protrude like mine here because of the possibly shortened slide. if anyone also has a marui Hi-capa and can measure the length of the slide thad be great. because if it sticks out the bushing will simply not fit watsoever. so if you are planning to run that setup make sure you get measurements from the shop you are ordering from be4 you dive in.

on a side note. WA bushing SHOULD fit this fine. (not 100% sure)

nice pictures. They are very impressive. I wish i had taken photography lessons.

I actually just purchased one from mopic. I hope to see that its nothing like the other 1911s WE has made.

Let me know what parts you will upgrade, i'm new to the GBBs

Yes. Except 1911's use straight barrels and 5.1's use tapered barrels, usually.

I've had one for a while. The rattly slide is a drag but you don't notice it when firing, just when sitting by the side of the road.

Super nice grips, great trigger break & 2 mags in the box. Can't argue with that package.

heres my post about my upgraded parts from the other thread: also helps identify the problem with people wanting bushings on their upgraded parts (might not work)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
as far as bull barrels and chambers are concerned yes TM fits perfectly. now the spring plug(i have the hollow version) with the full length guide rod sticks out my wilson combat about 1mm from the end of the actual slide.

im not in Canada now so i cant take any pictures, but if you discard the bushing idea. all TM spring plug +chamber nd such would fit just fine. but if you want the one i showed you i cant promise it wont stick out 1mm like the hollow one on my wilson combat.

This is what i got for my Wilson Combat :
Shooters design

Nova

+Airsoft surgeons 150+ spring set.

it runs flawlessly. im not sure if the hollow spring plug with the guide rod is suppose to stick out as opposed to this one:

but i would suggest asking redwolf or WGC to measure that one and compare the length to the one i use. if it is the same then u cant use it as the spring plug will stick out too much for the bushing to lock. but if u wanna run my setup then go for it. it works great and makes 80% of the slide wobble go away.

Good pictures. Mind letting us know the "strobist" setup for the photographic competent among us?

I revers engenired your light, but I'd like to know your exact setup.

P.s. Nice gun too hehe.
