Star G36K Modifications

I got that G36 a while ago from Kos here on the forums. All stock, I traded it for my PS3.

Now it was painted in an OD/black urban camo (Really nice job BTW)

I liked the paint sheme, but I prefer black. Might paint it back in a custom sheme later. I wanted to remove as much as I could of the older paint before starting the new job. Ended using some Tamiya acrylic paint thiner and a tooth brush. It works miracle. I cleaned everything except the carry handle (was supposed to be traded for a 36C handle)

That stuff cleaned all the paint like it was water. Simply dipped the brush in the thinner, then rubbed a bit on the body and voila! All the paint comes off.
The best is that it did not attacked the fire selection indication. Only removed the paint over it. It does not whiten the plastic as most solvent do.

I ordered a part for a guy long time ago, almost a year. It was a First Factory M4 hybrid stock adapter. It allow you to use any AR style stock (full or collasible). The plastic quality of that part is amasing. Fiber renforced plastic. Only drawback is that the finish is glossy. Nothing a thing layer of paint can't change.

I also had some battery shortage problems. Most of the time I had to carry 2 or more packs for a game, since only mini-type packs fit in the handguard without modifications. And I think that the larger handguard looks too fatty for that gun. So here was the solution! Crane stock battery! I chose the modstock collapsible stock from our dear friend Huang. 75$ shipped, good deal, anyways I will repaint it if the finish is not perfect. I am on a budget so I can't spend over 100$ for a stock. I had planned to use a 3800mAh Ni-Mh battery at the back.

While being at it, I will order a railled handguard from Huang too. The Star one is nice, but since I want a markman platform, some kind of bipod attachement would be nice. I already have the Star G36 bipod, but it is too long the be folded correctly, and the height is fixed. Might modify it later to have it a bit shorter...who knows.
Huang has a nice G36K handguard kit, cloned after the CA one if I recall correctly. Price tag is also quite interesting. I did a review of it when I received it last week. (http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=49291).

Here is how it looks mounted:

Unfortunately, the stock was advertised as "able to received a large cranestock pack" It is not. So here goes the plan of using a 3800mAh pack.
I will use a second 1400mAh mini pack wired in parallel with the foregrip pack. It will give me a nice 2800mAh with a bit more kick since the two minis are ran side by side. (around 20A instead of the 10A of a single pack). I will still keep it a 9.6v so have a decent ROF, but most important, trigger response.

The handguard kit came with some cheap repro flash hider and a barrel extension (that kit is made to convert a G36C to K lenght). These are steel and are quite well made. Hardened black, the only issue is that the finish is not thick enought. Some surface rust was showing when I received the package. Also, the flash hider don't have any stopping mecanism to keep it aligned. I will keep using the stock Star flash hider. A lot nicier.

The finish of the handguard's metal hardware is really awefull. The paint used on the rails is really glossy and flakes very easily.

I sanded down most of the imperfections, but some work still has to be done. I will file the seams that are left and add some epoxy puty before doing an other paint job.

I had the time to paint the whole gun a few days ago.
I used some Tamiya acrylic paint because I know that the finish is very, very nice. I have a cheap airbrush too, so there is no blob or spitting on the paint.
I used some XF1 Flat black for the body, stock and most of the gun (including the KA silencer. I wanted to hide the .45 markings)
Some Nato black was applied to the barrel and gas block to give it a heat tempered look. (Nato black is close to the finish on hardened steel barrels and real gun barrels, some kind of very dark gray shade)

I have no pictures at the moment, and the gun is still in pieces. I will take some when I come back home on Jan 3rd.

The Armalite stock adaptor is pretty unique, not a lot of people use that, being out of most G36 users' comfort zone. Funny, 'cause a lot of us have embraced the magwell adaptor just fine.

I also have the PP adapter, but I don't like it at all.
I am selling my AR mags to buy some G36 ones. I intend on keeping the magwell since it takes about 10 sec to swap from one to the other... might be usefull in a game...

Then again, playing marksman/scout, I don't really use a lot of bbs...

Kos-mos, go to evike.com-look up their li-poly batts. I bought one from there for my ca36 and it fit great in my fore stock. 11.1 25c 1500 mah- crap loads of power.

I have a 30C 1800mAh 7.4v pack that takes the same space as a mini. Also some 2100mAh 7.4 and 9.6 at 20C that fit in the same space.

I don't want to use 11.1v, it is overkill for a motor designed to run at 6v. (yes, our motors should be at 6v)

The problem is that it takes 1 hour to charge. A Ni-Mh mini pack will be full in unber 25 min.

Plus the way I am doing it I get a nice 20A drain at 9.6v and 2800mAh capacity.

Yay!

I finally got my hands on a G36C top rail!

I got a friend with a Echo1 G36C, and I traded him my scope carry for his flat-top. Now it is really great.

I can mount both my Aimpoint or my 3-9x40 scope. I actually prefer the scope, so the pictures are with the scope. I am using the Star foregrip with the bipod for the scope setup and the railed fore with a vertgrip and my modified flashlight for the CQB/RDS setup.

Here are some shots of the scope setup. I don't have med. scope rings so I have to take the L-mount from my Aimpoint for the scope too. I actually might just get an other L-mount for the scope.

I probably will also get the rail filler (from First Factory) to cover the holes from the iron sights.
