How to take AK grips off

Well, I was wondering how to take the front grips off my AK. There is a lever on the side like the real steel, but only the ICS or CA AK has a feature that that actually takes it off, so how do I take it off on the Mauri?

The front sight has one screw underneath ... remove it. There is a second screw on the part that slants up from the outer barrel to the upper handguard ... remove that. Pull assembly forward. The handguards will slip right off.

Please be careful not to overtighten the screws when you put them back on. Most people do and strip them.

Alright thanks, I have one more question though, to get to the screw you need to remove the mock cleaning rod, when I try to move it I'm always worried about bending it, whats the easiest way to take it out without damaging it?

Just pull it down enough to clear the bottom of the front sight assembly. I wouldn't worry about bending it, it's quite strong.
