help with spring on a Bolt action
ok. I want to downgrade my BA a little, but I kind of dont want to buy multiple spring to achieve this. Thats where your knowledge come to help me.
For the purpose, the BA is an L96 fully upgraded: cylinder, piston, guide, hop up, thight bore barrel with no air leak. it now as an SP150 spring in it and shoots 500FPS. I'd like to downgrade it close to 450FPS. which spring should I put? I was thinking of SP120 or 130 but then, I begin to search and realise that each brand had a different way of rating thier spring :-x So that's why I'm making this thread. And I'd like to say that I have used the search button and that I've seen the spring chart ( for AEG) . but I really like to be spoon fed, Also, lots of site doesnt tell the size of their spring ...like 13mm , 11 mm etc. what the hell!!! thanks Last edited by Vandal*Qc*; March 31st, 2016 at 00:57.. |

If the 150 puts you at 500 a 130 from the same company should out you at ~420fps
Laylax springs are in mps, provided you have good air seal and efficient barrel volume to cylinder volume their ratings are prety spot on. I run a vsr 10 with a 455 mm inner (full laylax internals basically) and a sp 150 gives me ~500fps As for the spring size it's not that relevant. PDI sells some different sized springs and guides (for whatever reason) and they sell guide specific to those springs. If you have pdi parts you should order a pdi spring to go with the guide you selected. Otherwise stick with laylax . The laylax parts will fit with stock parts. If you have some off brand (angle custom for example) you'll have to figure out what parts they are a clone of. Also we need to know what l 96 you have because there are two versions AFAIK, one uses aps2 parts and one uses the type 96 parts. Then there are also the really off brand that use a mix and or include some Vsr10 parts.

Its also very important to match your piston to the spring size. You can't use a 11mm spring with a 13mm piston. The spring willbend inside it, making the bolt pull really hard and possibly damaging the internals.

You could also just trim your spring down to get to the desired fps your looking for. ---> http://www.airsoftsniperforum.com/32...king-work.html

thanks for the reply. First, I dont want to cut my current spring because I want to be able to use it if I want. my gun is perfect at is current 500fps, but I cannot play like that everywhere.
And the L96 is a well. I currently have 2 different cylinder set-up. the one I want to downgrade use 13mm spring. thats why I was saying that the size was important to me. And I'm also searching a spring for my mcm700x which use 11mm spring. And thanks hectik. I'll try to find an sp130 for my L96. And an other question, my Ares is at 430 FPS, If I want to gain some fps without going over 450. what should I choose? the gun is completely stock except for some sealing upgrade. I was thinking sp110 or 120? Am I wrong? And by the way, the mcm700x already got nice intern for what I want to do with it. so I just want to had a little power, but not too much. |

For gaining ~20fps, if you have the travel on the spring, you could try just shimming the spring guide so the spring is compressed more (1/2" maybe)

I think the real point to make about the 20 fps is that it will have quite literally no effect on your range or accuracy. 100 fps. That'll make a decent dent. 50 fps. Not all that noticeable. 20 fps no effect.
A 285fps TM vsr 10 can shoot further and more accurately than a 400fps stock aeg from China. Because the hop rubber, unit and inner barrel are of good quality. If you upgrade a cheap gun it'll not perform as well as an upgraded quality base. I can attest as my first Vsr10 was a tsd, after putting all my laylax parts into a TM it's a huge improvement in consistency. The same can be said for cheap parts. Buy clone parts get clone results. A higher fps gun will afford you the luxury of shooting a heavier round however in doing so you increase you minimum safe engagement distance "MSED" so it's always a trade off. If you go for the <450fps mark it's the best place to start sniping. You get a good hop up and barrel and some good .36 or .40 bb's and go see what you may need. For most it's a good optic and a good ghillie. The fps of a sniper is not his/her greatest advantage it is patience and stealth that win for us. I like running with a 300-400 fps bolt action because I can cook it easily, it's super quiet and I can shoot u as close as I would with a pistol lol And yes you don't want to cut or heat/stretch/temper your spring. Either change spring or use spacers if they are visible for your gun.

I know for the clone. but sincerela, I have no problem with it now. And it is already fully upgraded. And know how to be a sniper and what I want. I juste want to downgrade the FPS.
And for the ares and the small gain I was trying to have... yeah, youre probably right that 20 fps wont help that much. but on the other hand, having a better brand spring will help with consistency. so better try to upgrade a little. |
