Measuring Outer Barrel Length
Can someone straighten me out?
I'm trying to figure out how outer barrel length on an airsoft gun is measured. Mainly for the purposes of buying an outer barrel that matches my inner barrel length. I was hoping to pick up an outer barrel that fully conceals a 300mm inner without it extending into the flash hider. I was under the impression barrel length only included the length that physically sticks out passed the receiver; then I came across this image of a 5KU 11.5" barrel. Any help is appreciated. |

Good luck.
The proper way of measuring a barrel a la real steel is from the bolt face to the tip of the muzzle. Since there is no bolt face on AEGs, no manufacturer has been able to get this right. So that's why you see goofy measurements like above. Only way is to get the actual barrel, stick a hop unit into it with inner, anything else is an approximation.

A 14.5" barrel will fully conceal a 363mm(14.3") inner barrel
So you'd want a 12" barrel for a 300mm inner. It's been my experience that they always measure to the end of the threads, since that is still legit rifled barrel length on RS. Aesthetically or practically, their measurement of end to thread start makes no sense. |
