I want to learn how to fix and upgrade guns so I think the best way would be to buy broken guns and buy replacement parts

You'll want to search through the classifieds for parts guns.
Either the parts/accessories section or the two gun sale sections.

I've bought more than a few "fixer" guns, and they're a great way to learn what to do and not do.
The improved pricing doesn't hurt either, if you're willing to search ASC's classifieds or the interwebs for the required parts too.

you're better off just buying a cyma ak for 150$ when they come on sale. A new/stock gun gives you a known standard to work from. I find people are selling mid and higher ranged guns for more than I'd be willing to pay for a used/parts/tech platform. Buying a working gun also gives you the benefit of it actually working, rather than someone's abandoned project that even if you do everything right, it still might not work.

Gearbox innards and principles are all the same, hey have some quirks between versions. 3s are easier to pull out and work on after testing to see if you fucked up or not.

A p90 is the best platform to learn on because it's literally 2 screws to drop the gearbox out, 3 screws to take the trigger off and the rest is contained. The cutoff is external and the motor is caged. If you get the KA one with the quick change, then you can take the spring out and completely unload the gearbox so shit doesn't go flying everywhere. The only difference in the way things work in a v6 vs a 2/3 is that the tappet plate spring is a compression spring, not an extension spring.

But not having to worry about shit exploding everywhere when you open the gearbox is a huge plus.

Look for a cheap, new m4, ak/g36 or p90, cyma, jg, ka, g&g plastic bodied if you have to if you want it cheap, that way you're not out a lot of money and you still have a backup gun, and if you fuck up, it's a cheap gun to start with. Lots of choice under 200 bucks.

Stay away from anything that has blowback, those systems are all proprietary and aren't standard to learn from.

I'll just offer this as advice if you're serious about learning:

It's not about just buying parts and putting them into a gearbox. You need to understand how things inside work and what forces are at play. It doesn't require a lot of special skill or tools, (getting certain things to fit properly might require tools) but to be any good at it requires some time and reading. If you really want to, you can do it on your scar, just be sure to read up on it so you know what you're doing before you do it.

I just don't recommend learning on a scar because it takes so much time to take it apart and put it back together in order to test your changes to see if you've done it right or not. the sportline scar is already a pretty low tier gun.

I believe there is another forum called Airsoft Mechanics. I created a profile in there a while ago, it gets very technical but pretty much everything under the sun related to the tech side of airsoft seems to have been discussed in there.

asm is great, but general tech questions are usually frowned upon, the onus is on the user to do the reasearch on the site to learn the basics or get a general understanding before asking specific, targeted questions.

Asking 'what <insert manufacturer> parts should I get to make my gun teh moar awsum' or 'what parts do I need to <insert rof/triggeresponse/accuracy upgrade>" type questions result in angry groans.

Thank lurkingknight for your input, I know feel well informed

Do you think a version 7 gearbox is also good for beginers ?

For myself, as a beginner, gas blowback was far easier to learn on than electrics. You may want to fiddle around with both types before restricting your main interest to one type.
I've tried a few of both and am now very firmly GBB, though there are many places (and seasons) in which an AEG is far superior. You'll discover for yourself what your pref is. I've naught but GBB now.

I don't think a V7 is good for beginners at all. There's like 3 different "V7" standards and to put it back together requires a lot of manual dexterity.

V3 and V6 are probably the better ones to learn on. CYMA AK or Aftermath Kraken (CYMA internals) are probably the best "3D instruction manual" to learn on because they're dirt cheap.

Agreed, 110%.

Plus, getting a Kraken to run real well and using it effectively is it's own sick pleasure.

Getting a Panther DPMS to run well is it's own sick pleasure.

I almost did that to my ex girlfriends gun, I was going to take it all apart, toss in a couple reliability and power upgrades, a new hop up and barrel, a new motor, and a 7.4 V lipo. Those things can break so easily though, like if you look at it funny the area where the front takedown pin is will crack.

V7... The gearbox itself is good for beginners, its straightforward and simple. Sourcing parts is not, as the gear set is a proprietary ratio. Pistons and cylinders are also proprietary. The M14 itself is annoying to take apart.

V2, V3 and V6 would be good for beginners to learn on.

The Lancer Tactical is V2 compatible, you can learn on it without fear of wasting something valuable. It will be annoying due to the poor parts fitment. Working on shitty guns is a lot more time consuming than working on a good gun.

I hate G&G as a whole, but their Combat Machine series is by far the best gun for the price range. The gearboxes are quite clean and fairly easy to work on. The gearbox shell is what is terrible. If you get one to tinker with, make sure you add a sorbo pad and radius the cylinder windows. I've seen too many cracked G&G gearbox shells.
