Question ares m4 compatible mechboxes

recently went out gaming.ended up lending my rifle to a friend, he ended up jamming my rifle up, and stripping the gears on it. *face palm*. i was first just going to rebuild the entire mech box. after a long consideration and skipping a ton of work, i just ended up buying a m4 s-systema gear box off a friend who swore up and down it would just "slide right in". 2 hours later i gave up returned and gave him the gear box back. i was just wondering what kinda mech boxes would work for my gun. if anybody could help me out i would be forever grateful. i have heard a vfc m4 gearbox is roughly the same. but i am unsure, and would rather take advice from people that know what they are talking about

Simple answer: ARES

Just change the gears.

It's actually a great design, especially since the Version 2 mechbox came out in the early 90s...

BUT getting replacement parts is a pain...
As long as you don't break something proprietary, you are fine.

Now, you only need a set of shims and some new gears... not that bad really.

The ACM quick spring change gearboxes are direct clones of ARES, such as this one http://www.rsov.com/product.php?lang...997&cateId=142

However, changing the gears would be a much simpler solution.

thanks a bunch everybody, one more question thought. could i just use the gears out of the systema mechbox i gave back to the guy. i got it cheaply and he hasnt paid me back for it. just grab some white lithium grease, and swap them over. or is it easier said than done?

If you change the gears, even with the same brand and model, you have to redo the shims.

A decent gearset is about 30$. Your mechbox better be cheaper. Then again you can probably resell the whole thing a lot easier and buy better gears.

Systema gears aren't that good. If you want good and cheap gears, just find some stock JG gears. The only cost around $10. For around $30, go for SHS/Core/AF. For $50, go for Lonex. And if you want to spend $100, get Siegeteks/Riots.

Okay. So I changed all internals on the gun put it back together and still a no fire! I have been tinkering with it for the last little while. Everything "looks" fine. I am guessing I have missed a small thing. When pulling the trigger it clicks. And after a couple pulls I can feel the wires getting hot, and a small smell of something burning. Seems to be comin from the motor area! HELP!! Haha

On my motor it has a positive symbol. And I am pretty sure red is positive haha. Well last Time I checked haha. So I don't think that would be the problem. I must have forgotten a part or something is in backwards. Does anybody have a picture of a area mech box from a couple different angels? That way I can get a better grasp on where everything goes.

Thanks again for all your input on the thread people. Its finally firing and working properly. It ended up being the piston teeth that got shredded. But I changed out pretty much everything except the piece that went in was the reason it was not firing. haha. The reason it wouldn't fire Is the anti-reversal latch was put in the wrong way. Whoops!!
