Deadly Designs' Hybrid 66
So here it is, people have rumored about one by VLTOR on here and many other forums but nobody has ever seen one actually produced and released, so I took the opprotunity to do it. SO far its only set for G&P buffer tubes but soon I will thread them for WE/RS threads.

I'd want to see how long it would hold up compared to the original part

Are you saying how long it would compare to the original plastic hinge plate? If you are this one will probably last you a life time. Billet 6061 T6 Aluminum.

Damn - just when I thought I was finished pimping my SCAR!
I already have one of your Al part #27's so I presume all I would need would be the new hybrid part 66 thingy' I would prefer one cut for real steel buffer tube threads though, and anodized black (and yes I'd gladly pay extra for that). So, what's the drill for ordering one of these and those extended rails? Would one contact you offline to arrange payment and such? Also, what would be the chances of getting you to make a part #15? One of the holes has partially chewed threads (where the torx-head body screw engages) and I'd like something a little more durable than pot metal for that part anyways. I tend to take my gun apart a lot for a good once-over cleaning so the chewed threads thing is a bit of an issue. Mind you, I haven't tried heli-coils but I don't think they make them that small. Thanks and cheers - Dan PS: I really like the tool-path marks! I think it really adds some interest and texture to the part. Heck, [some] people pay a lot of money to get stainless steel appliances and cabinetry with brushed patterns that pale in comparison! Last edited by danhay; December 17th, 2011 at 12:01.. |

As of right now im not "producing" anything, but if you'd like you can send me your WE/RS buffer tube so I can get the thread pitch and specs and Ill make a 66 for ya.
The Rails I just kinda drew up on a boredom day, I have one issue with the rails and its when you charge the weapon if you wrap your finger all the way around the charging handle you might grind your finger across the tops of the rails. So I just half finger the charging handle. If you'd like a set as well let me know. As for part #15, Ill have to rip my scar apart and see which part it is as well as what it would take to make it. Might have another winner on my hands =) So if you want the 66 and rails PM me and we can discuss all that. Thanks for the intrest |

The only buffer tube I have is a part of my VFC M4. This is somewhat less than optimal for use with your hybrid 66 because it isn't a real buffer tube. Quote:
Personally, I think the part should be stainless or something that won't strip in a light breeze as it is far too easy to mis-align the torx-head body scews. I don't know enough about the black art of metal fabrication so aside from higher material costs I have no idea what is involved in machining stainless versus Aluminium. It sounds like the rails aren't totally ergonomic and I only use my rails to mount one flashlight so I'll hold off there. I am interested in the hybrid 66 because I would like to mount a UBR stock on my SCAR ... cuz that would blow people's minds! Cheers - Dan |

Bummer, Im trying to get ahold of a RS/WE Buffer as thats what I originally wanted to make the threads to match. Soon enough I should have one. Sometime after the new year I'd imagine.
I really Wish they didnt use those gay torx screws. I mean torx is good but the screws they used are shit. They have a short thread and very little chamfer so its hard to get started in the hole and easy to cross thread and strip. As for making the part out of stainless that would require different tooling. Maybe some CRS (Cold Rolled Steel)? I mean its cheaper and weaker than most steels but the only reason you need it is to keep from stripping, and with that you shouldnt have a problem. With the rails Im thinking maybe a different Charging handle? I cant change the rails at all because they are US GOV't MIL SPEC, so taking them down in width would well make them worthless as no accessory would be able to clamp onto them. |

RS buffer tube threading is 1 3/16 - 16 TPI.
it's called Special Thread HS TAP
