vfc mk16 wiring upgrade

hello im thinking of upgrading the wiring in the stock of my vfc mk16 (scar-l).
but before i do that i need to know some things.

first: wire gauge

second: wire type silicon or teflon coted

last: where could i get some.

1: Anything bigger (smaller number means bigger wire) then 16gauge will be a bitch to wire

2: I'd go with silicon coated since it's flexible and has a good resistance to heat.

I use 18g for upgrades. And you want high conductivity wire, like silver coated copper.
Higher # of strands means more flexibility. Larger wires mean less resistance, therefore more RoF. Probably want to upgrade to deans as well, and since you're rewiring anyway, might as well slap a simple MOSFET switch in there.

thanks for the help. also only re-wiring the stock of the gun so i dont think i could put in a mosfet.

A word of caution: be careful not to go too thick on the wires.

I also had a VFC SCAR-L, upgraded the wiring, and afterwards found it extremely difficult to route, once the battery was installed. Because of all the mechanisms inside the stock for adjusting length, there's not a heck of a lot of room left over for thick wires.

Be careful also when installing the butt plate pin - if you're not careful, it can sometimes pinch the wiring too.

Silicon cables with a lot of thin strands are very flexible. Try 16AWG. For comparison: Most batteries have 16awgs.

The cables from your PC power adapter also works fine. Never tried them, but a lot of ppl had success with them. They are cheap and good with thin insulation.

I don't really like working with silicone wiring...if everyone's careful with stuff it's fine....if you give it to airsofters they nick/tear/rip the soft silicone shielding.

I don't like most of the teflon coated wiring that I've found locally...because it's overly stiff and hard to route.

I tend to use regular hobby/car wiring...usually 18AWG. It's solid copper strands...and tends to hold up fairly well.

The silver strand high conductivity stuff (usually with clear shielding) is nice too.

Good terminals...good shrink wrap...good solder joints. Nice and neat...no splices.

+1 to PSU wires.

They are either 18 or 16 ga.... but quality of the wire goes with the quality of the PSU...

Got some REALLY nice off an Antec 700W, good flexible, high strand count coated (tin or nickel) wires... with just enough of hard yet flexible insulation.

I found some 16ga at an electronic surplus a few year back but it was the last 2 spools... this stuff was just perfect for airsoft guns.

I'm rewiring because the original wire's in the scar's stock are crap.
