Is blank firing an AEG bad?

i have a simple and stupid quick question to ask you guys...

is blank firing with an AEG bad for the gun??

Dryfiring could be bad to your gun.

Could make your shell to crack as the BB slows down the piston air is blocked by the BB.



Shooting once or twice for motor height won't kill your gearbox.

Shooting full auto may damage it.

Just try not to.

Having a BB in the barrel causes backpressure on the piston and reduces impact load on the mechbox. A few dry firing rounds at the end of a magazine isn't going to kill your gun, neither is a couple of shots in semi at the end of a game to make sure the spring is decompressed. However, repeated dry firing for no reason can lead to failure of parts, such as the mechbox (especially V2 mechboxes) and cylinder heads.

Why especially Version 2 mechboxes?

think of the spring loaded piston as a little hammer.Each time you dry fire you're hitting the frame of your gearbox with this hammer . eventualy the metal will fatigue and fail. This is especially prevailent in the design of a non re-enforced version 2 gearbox.

The walls of the gb, around the cylinder, are to thin for a such a high stress point. Most newer V2 gear boxes address this problem are not prone to cracks. (still not as robust as any of the other versions, but better than the origional)

Because there's not a lot of metal supporting the front end of the mechbox. They can fracture around the screw holes to the cylinder window. Other mechboxes are a little more beefy in the front end.
