If the barrel quality or inside diameter consistancy is not great, you'll have a greater chance of striking the inner walls with a bb on a tighter barrel - hence lower accuracy.
Some germans (of course they would be germans) did some very accurate measurements of inner barrels (ultrasonic?) and found that the barrels they tested were not perfectly round. I can't find their results, but I seem to remember that Prometheus barrels had the best QC of all tested. If the barrel was not perfectly round, you'd produce odd effects on the bb's flight path and consequently bad accuracy. kinda explains, to me anyways, the hit and miss improvement in accuracy from manufacturer to manufacturer and even from barrel to barrel from the same manufacturer. |

in my vsr i have a 554 .01 inner barrel and i've never seen a bb shoot so straight in my life. mind you i'm powering it with 500 fps behind it, but the bbs are like lasers. i don't even need to look down the scope to hit a target 200 ft away.
skladfin.. u live in vancouver right? i have a bnib 6.01 pdi inner barrel if you'd like to do the test for all of us. you'd have to get another 455mm barrel, vice and controlled test area first though. no point in testing it if you can't control the tests. pm me if you are interested. |

I could, but I can only do it if all barrels are of the same length. Just to be fair.
tests can be done in a indoor condition at 30feet. but no rifle stand, so not 100% controlled Last edited by Skladfin; September 9th, 2008 at 21:41.. |

i have tried different kinds of inner barrels from 6.08, 6.05, 6.04, 6.03, 6.01
TK twist barrel, humped inner barrel and lastly the polygon inner barrel. in my experience and observation. for accuracy the prometheus 6.03 inner barrel rules them all.

I used a PDI 6.05 in a gun a while ago and it was nothing special to me, seemed worse than guns of equivalent fps and inner barrel length that had Prometheus 6.03's.
I have a PDI 6.01 in my TM M14 and the thing is laser accurate, its nuts. But then again a bone stock TM M14 is like that too. |

I am hoping to be doing some accuracy tests with a vsr and various barrels of different diameter and length.

yes. the inner shape of the barrel is polygon..as I remember it came out first before the TK twist inner barrel. unfortunately the company stopped making of it since Japanese airsoft enthusiasts never see any good of the product.
I will search for the pics on that in the Japanese airsoft blog. there are many weird airsoft parts here in Japan that we never knew existed.
