I am very surprised that they used the very uncommon word : Airsoft other simply use Gun Replica or Toy Gun at all. To me in this story the worst is not the fact that he shot some poeple. ( Even if it's extremely dumb ) It's the fact that now every students know the word Airsoft (Thanks to the letter) and trust me! Google will be their friends. Those 14yo playing BF2 will sure enjoy that word.

Students sling projectiles at each other all the time. Before airsoft, it was slingshots, spitballs and even thrown rocks. The only reason this incedent is really concerning is that an airsoft gun was involved. The connotations of using an ASG are worrisome, but it probably just boils down to dumbass kids wanting to fling stuff at each other. I'm fairly certain that many members of this forum once threw a rock or shot a friend with some sort of projectile device outside of a pball field.
The problem is generally careless teens not thinking about the secondary effects of their actions. Just like the dumb twats who bomb pedestrians/cyclists with rocks or bags of milk from bridges and overpasses. At least we don't have kids bringing a sack of real guns to class and gunning people down according to a list.

Haha I remember bags of milk! I dont think they have them past ontario. Folded paper and a rubber band was my favored projectile launcher....

From RCMP media relations:
Mar 23rd, 2006 - 12:00:28 AM File #Chilliwack 2006-9913 "Toy pistol" shooting at local Senior Highschool 2006-9913 Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, Chilliwack, B.C. 0n Wednesday March 22nd, at about 12:30 hrs, the Chilliwack RCMP members responded to a complaint of an assault with a weapon that had just occurred at the Sardis Senior Secondary School, located in the 45000 block of Stevenson Road. An ex-student had just entered the School and had shot at 3 students in one of the classrooms, with a toy pistol that shoots plastic pellets, commonly known as “ Airsoft Pistol”. The injuries consisted of minor marks on the skin. Due to the seriousness of the complaint, all available officers were sent to the scene, as well as some members of the Police Dog Services and Major Crimes Unit, in an effort to ensure the safety of the students and the public. The quick response by the members achieved that goal. The suspect, an18 year old male from Chilliwack , was immediately located near Sardis Senior Secondary School by one of the attending officers, and was subsequently arrested without incident. The suspect was transported to the Chilliwack Detachment, where he is currently being held in custody, pending his first Court appearance scheduled for tomorrow ( March 23rd). The exact nature of the charges will also be known at that time. Further updates and details will be released as they become available. The investigation into this matter is ongoing. The injuries are confirmed to be minor, however the local RCMP is investigating this matter as an extremely serious one. The Police would also like to remind the public that “toy pistols” or other replicas and imitations of actual handguns become a serious threat to the safety of our community when they are carried, transported or used in public.

Edit; he's 18, I hope he enjoys having a criminal record for assault. This will ensure a wonderfully fulfilling job future. |

Well I think its technicaly worse than assault isnt it?? Using an Airsoft gun is technicaly a real gun when used in a crime right? Im sure his lawyer will plead it down but little suzy fresh meat could do many many years of ankle grabbing before hes out... wait this is canada he wouldnt do many many years had he gone in shooting a real gun.... Tho it is nice that they came in treating it like a real situation... only wish they shot suzy dead.
