I second the notion .. write it up a bit more formal and send it in and see what they say about the info you give them.... might get them off their asses to get a person to interview that actually knows what they are talking about.

Yeah, its a shame some officers have that attitude. For a better, more educated look on replicas...by a cop might i add... check out this article by a constable I work with, hell some of you may have already seen it around: The Hubbub Over Replica Guns |

Airsoft will never die in Canada, so I don't really care what these liberal ass-plungers think. Meh.
Good find though, thanks.

I don't suppose we can whistle up a respected Victoria ASC member to speak with the officer in question and vanquish some of that ignorance?

Everyone is entitled to their oppinion. And thats all these articles are about, is someones oppinion.
Funny though, that someone can have such an aggressive stance against something they know nothing about. Instead of educating themselves on what they so adimently detest... they base their oppinions purely on an emotional level. "Ohhhhh, that looks scary... I don't like it." Funny thing is, these people are usually heard, generate fear, and ultimatly do damage to something they have no knowlege of. Pretty sad in this day and age.

Opinion
While I understand that everyone is entitled to an opinion (even a one based on misinformation) there is a responsibility by journalists to ensure the opinion they reprisent to THOUSANDS OF READERS WITH NO BACKGROUND ON THE TOPIC is balanced and well researched/investigated.
It's called "journalistic integrity". Oxymoron if you ask me. Hype sells papers, bottom line. So I doubt we will every see an article selling all the benifits of milsim:
The list of the positive qualities learned through participating in Airsoft and being involved in the community is almost endless. The only way to defend poorly written and researched reporting is to attach the same amount of hype to the potential loss of OUR RIGHTS, as that storey does to the "percieved" danger to the general public. Anyone with media contacts...step up.

Looking for form T-whatev

I hope no one takes it on themselves to write the paper and author. Specially if they mention ASC. Odds are you'll just fan the flames, inciting the soccer moms to do something. No matter how positive you make your letter all you're going to do is make the soccer moms think "My Billy could be shot!! He must never be exposed to those things!!!". The ownly people that will win in this situation are the newspaper, journalist and the lawyers...

That's a really good article, and it makes a sound point. Why the hell are people sticking up for criminals, by punishing those who have/use replicas responisbly (ie- playing Airsoft on a designated field)? I say that if a guy robs a store with a GBB and gets shot by a cop for it, he assumed the risk of that happening when he first walked into the store. People really need to get their damn priorities in order, and think about what they're actually trying to do instead of just jumping on the "let's ban replicas/guns/pants" bandwagon. EDIT: Also, banning replicas or Airsoft doesn't cause crimes like robberies, holdups, or muggings to stop. If a criminal can't get their hands on a replica, they'll just use something else... like, say, a REAL GUN potentially. Frankly, if I were a cop, and I were the first to arrive on the scene of a 7/11 holdup, I'd rather be faced with a replica handgun (even if I didn't know it was fake) than a real gun (or a knife, for that matter). If I had to shoot the person holding up the store (because they started waving the "gun" around at me or something), I certainly wouldn't feel bad about it, because they put THEMSELVES in that position in the first place. |

Maybe get some sort of representitive to give a speach to the government on airsoft. or the media if they have contacts.
Anyone here thinking about becoming a journalist? You know what you'd probably be the first journalist to have some clue about what airsoft is about. Unless there are some journalists that are here. (I doubt it though otherwise the airsoft thing would actually be clairified already) If you are a journalist try to talk to the other journailists and clairify to them that airsoft is just a milsim type of game like paintball. except more realistic. (dont flame me for putting paintball and airsoft in the same sentence) wtf M-7? its a freaking C-7 The paint job is wrong. The c-7(a1 and a2) has the c-72 scope does it not? how is a uzi an automatic? isnt it a smg unless the classification has changed then make the c9 a hand gun while youre at it

Does anyone else notice the bad Editing in all the articles?
There's quotes that start with "... but never end with another " Also there's horrible grammar, and spelling mistakes all over the place. Not to mention that it sounds like someones writing at a level higher than they really can.
