Painting Japanese made metal body?(Zinc alloy)

Any ideas how to make the paint stay onto it?
i've tried some plastic friendly paints(sprays) and automobile sparys but none of em worked out well, the paints pills off like egg shells after it drys up or simply scratch and win.

I was thinking of handing it to a friend of mine who works in a car shop to get the job done..am i being smart here or simply idiotic : / ?

Normal paint won't stick to zinc ... crap, trying to remember ... use a Tremclad spray primer (from any place that sells paint). That should neutralise the zinc and allow you to spray anything you want over top of it.

Has anyone ever tried powder coating a metal body?? or parts?? It is a very durable finish. I havn't read of anyone doing it. Just wondering.

True powder coating requires specialized equipment that a normal person just wouldn't have. That being said, maybe someone has.

i use BBQ hight temp paint it works awsome and the look is perfect

I know it's a process that isn't going to be a DIY at home. Just want to know if anyone has tried it. I know a guy that has powder coating equipment, I may try it in the future, but the finish on my guns are fine right now. It would be way more durable than paint.

Duracoat works well for me. I usually bake it for a couple hours after to help it adhere. It's a real firearm finish so it is fairly durable if applied right. Just follow the directions when you buy. And make sure the metal is CLEAN before you apply. Hope that helps!

DJBordie in Toronto does this.

You can buy DIY powder coating gun and powder from www.summitracing.com and bake it in your oven/toaster oven (don't use for food after). I have painted several of my custom car parts with this stuff and it is very durable,never thought of it for airsoft before though.
