Informations for upgrading a Type 96
Hi guys, I just posted a review for a SD96B. First let me say that I am reading a lot from forum to retailers. I would like to jump the FPS from stock 465 (0.2g) to 550 fps+- only for target shooting. I read many things like:
PDI Hop up chamber PDI 6.01 tight bore etc. but there is so many parts and brands and people arguing agains each other so I am a bit lost. What would be a nice set-up? Pieces like spring, spring guide, piston and cylinder etc. Thank you for your patience. |

You should change the whole cylinder.
PDI and some other makes some nice kits. This is pricey though. Then you just have to drop a spring in it. The stock parts will get damaged quite fast if you just change the spring. The PDI hop-up and tightbore are more for accuracy. You can still use the stock hop-up unit fine. |

Thank you Kos-Mos. I have a +-500$ budget. I heard that a stock hop up wont hold +500fps? And I don't know if you could tell me brands names because this is one of the things that I find difficult to choose. Let's say that "OK" made a tune up kit for 500fps with cylinder/piston/spring guide and spring. Can I just swap the spring that come with it with a stronger one? Thank you

That OK kit is discontinuated.
And it was pushing 575 fps in my rifle. PDI lv2 cylinder set KM red piston head Laylax PSS2 3 elements piston Laylax 7/9mm spring guide Laylax PSS2 150% spring (should set you around 500-550) Laylax PSS2 120% spring (should set you around 475-500 for gaming purpose) Then PDI Type 96 hop-up chamber Prometheus 509mm 6.01 tightbore Prometheus RED hop-up rubber I modded my stock trigger unit to reduce the lenght and weight of the pull, but you can install that instead: King Arms/Laylax Zero trigger system Then you are done for it. Almost everything usefull will be done to your rifle. |

Thank you Kos-Mos. Do choosing 7mm or 9mm spring guide depends on the spring that follow? And should not I choose a 170% since it is only for target shooting purpose?
I was also wondering if installing everything requires special skills or it can be learn while doing it? I am more use to modify my Savage 509mm need a silencer for covering the extra lenght? |

The guide I told you about is both sizes. Low power springs are 7mm, higher power ones are 9mm.
The inner will come out about 5 mm at the end. If you want to use a silencer, you have to first add an adapter for it. The adapter itself will cover the end of the barrel. You can also add a realistic muzzle break. These screw on the silencer adapter to directly in place of the muzzle cap. |

For the cylinder set, can I just buy PDI precision cylinder set? And what is better between hard piston and vacuum piston? And how can you find out what version of type-96 you own? Should I guess that if you buy now it is only ver2 (with 12mm cock handle)?
And then choose a 9mm spring for it. |

Sometimes it takes more than 22 hours for someone to respond. People don't live on this forum. Be patient. If you haven't gotten any replies to a question in a couple of days, then feel free to bump the post. After 22 hours is a little...annoying.
Anyways, something I don't think Kos-mos mentioned (and if you did and I missed it, my bad) is a new trigger box. The plastic ones on the ACM L96's have a tendency to break, especially with an upgraded spring. EDIT: My bad, he mentioned the Laylax zero trigger system.

I had the PDI full set in my rifle before.
The piston is crap. The "impact" o-rings are held in place by a tiny aluminium lip. After about 100 shots, the o-rings slips out of place and causes a lot of problems (moslty because the gun spits rubber parts. That causes jams all the time until you fid why) That i why you should get the LV2. It is the same kit, but without piston/guide. Also, the PDI guide is 9mm only, and it is poorly made. Mine was out of center. That is why I used the Laylax one instead. And if you are using a genuine Maruzen rifle, the trigger gox is PLENTY able to hold a 600 fps spring. |

Sorry for the bump, my bad
Ok I see why there are differents parts in the set-up you told me. I have a clone from TSD, not a guenuine Maruzen (half the price and 465fps). Quality is surely not he same though. I will continue to studie this and sorry again for my lack of patience (^_^) |
