dovetail cutting....
Just wondering if anyone knows anything about machining a dovetail.....if there is something I don't like about how my SV is setup now is that the front sight is a bit difficult to use. And since I still have the steel fibre sight from the AS kit I am wondering about the feasibility to get the hybrid barrel cut with a dovetail cut on to install the AS sight. I wonder if there is a standard for the size of the cut and if I can by tool bits for it. Or if I can get a shop to do it or something...

More reading: http://www.brazoscustom.com/Home.htm So basically... standard angle is 60-65 degrees for real steel, but check for airsoft. In any case, if you're off, you can just do a general cut and you should be able to get the sight to fit with some filing, as long as you get the width to be able to fit in snugly. Secure with some red loctite. Last edited by ILLusion; November 16th, 2008 at 04:37.. |

it looks like my best bet would be to cut my barrel with a regular mill that matchs the minor width of the dovetail on the sight base(top part of the trapezoid)then file my way to fit....I'll give that a go....I guess I could alway buy another hybrid SD barrel if it fails...

I'd actually recommend cutting it a bit LESS than the minor width to give you room to file to width. Gives you room for error that way.
And make sure you keep that bad boy square... |
