Pre Cocking Mosfet, good or bad for your gun?
I am about to get a mosfet that can be programmed to pre-cock my gun. Apparently this will improve my trigger response. But does having my gun pre-cocked not leave the spring compressed? Is it harmful to leave my gun like that between games?

yes and no.
precocking will wear out your springs faster according to some... but when you start getting into fancier stuff, it's the price you'll pay for those kinds of features. springs lose energy by cycling compression and expansion cycles from what I understand... chances are your spring is compressed sometimes when you store your gun after a game anyways. When you install your spring you're also compressing it to an extent. Let a car sit on it's springs for 20 years in a garage which is in a semi compressed state it will probably still be the same ride height it was when you stored it.. provided they didn't rust out.

It's basically how a PTW works. It fires and then it cycles the spring back, instead of cycling the spring and then firing.
Just make sure you release the pressure on the spring when you are done, to remove unnecessary pressure on parts while storing. |

Thanks.
So If I were to set my mosfet for pre-cocking. Then after a game by pass my mosfet (its a plug and play type) and fire my gun that should release the spring tension right? |

PTW's cycle like AEG's, the piston is forward at rest, you pull the trigger and it brings the piston all the way back, then releases it It won't be bad at all for the spring, but what it WILL be hard on, is the motor. You need significantly more torque to move the spring from that fully cocked position. Although you can get away with a torque motor and normal ratio gears, I'd recommend using double torques to make it easier on the motor. |

Nope, PTWs do not pre-cock. They get better trigger response via better motors and a significantly better gear design. As far as running pre-cock on your gun, as long as you don't store them cocked its fine. You will see a faster draining of batteries, as it takes more power to further compress an already compressed spring then once in-compressed. And with that you may need to run a lighter spring so that your mechbox has the power to finish the cycle.

Also, if you REALLY care that much about trigger response, you should get a specter mosfet.
A huge contributor to trigger response that you don't realize until you run a PTW, is the long trigger pull of AEGs. 3mm trigger pull and a button switch cuts trigger response down by a LOT |
