G&P trigger guard roll pin issue

Hello all,

I recently purchased a magpul advanced trigger guard for my G&P AR, but I have run into an issue with the installation. I am unable to remove the pin, even when I support the trigger guard ears with a block of wood and attempt to hammer the pin with a 1/8" punch. I have a few questions for anyone to answer. First off, is the size of the trigger guard roll pin on an airsoft gun the same as a RS? Secondly, will a normal pin punch do the trick, or do I need a specific roll pin punch? Finally, Are there any special tips or tricks to removing this pin, specifically on a G&P? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It helps to remove the upper receiver, buffer tube, pistol grip and both body pins, so the mechbox and body do not have the pin in tension.

Wtf? That doesn't even make sense.

Make sure your punch isn't working against you by trying to spread that pin out, use some lube if you have too, it always feels better that way. Be careful not to break your trigger guard tabs though. If all else fails you could always use temperature or drill it out.

You sure it's even a pin you're hammering cause on some it's actually a grub screw

I don't know if the other parts hold that pin in tension but with the extras off you can get a block of wood under the opposite side of where you are hammering. Make sure you use a punch that isn't tapered and is the right size. Make sure you're not using a tiny hammer either, you want something like a heavy mallet to get things moving.

Some people drill a hole in the wood to catch the pin. If it's soft wood though I just let the pin go into the wood and back it out after.

Firstly the 1/8 punch has a larger diameter than the 3mm pin. You may be damaging the receiver.

Second, the roll pin has a taper and straight end. The punch needs to be against the straight end.

Thank you all for the info. Looks like I am going to order a 3/32" roll pin punch and do what I can from there.

Oops my bad. I was thinking of the pin above the trigger that holds the mechbox against the body.
