Cyma m14

Well, i just picked up a CYMA M14 SOCOM from a friend for cheap, however, I have a few questions I was wondering if you lovely ASCers would be willing to answer.

1. I have heard that the CYMA M14s come with stock tightbores? Does anyone know if this is true? If so, can anyone comment as to the quality of it? I am planning on buying a prometheus tightbore for it, but if it has a stock tightbore, that can wait.

2. Can i import a G&P DMR kit? I'm fairly sure that its not technically the receiver, but does anyone have any experience? It seems like a part that could be easily mistaken.

3. I have heard that CYMA altered the mechbox slightly from the TM design, so it uses a V3 spring guide. Apparently they did this so they could use the same parts from their AK line up. Can anyone confirm this? I have heard different things from different sources.

4. The stock hop-up seems very ineffective and inconsistent. I am already planning a hop-up rubber replacement, but should i replace the whole unit? Both Ares and TM sell replacements on ehobby, though the TM is always out of stock. Does anyone have any experience with the Ares?

5. Apparently M14s use a special kind of hop-up rubber. I have seen a few american forums where people say "just cut a standard rubber". Will this work? If not, where can i buy replacement rubbers?

For the first question I'd say wait until the gun is in your hands to see if you want to upgrade the inner barrel or not. One person's standard for accuracy may not be the same as yours.

EDIT: It sounds like you already have the gun, so why not see if it isn't already accurate enough for your own liking?

I do, however, i have no where to really get a sense of its accuracy. Hopefully i will be able to try it out to Op: Brass monkey on the 21st.

Ill try it then, but i was hoping to order some parts sooner than then.

1. Yes, the CYMA M14 SOCOM has a stock tightbore, should be 6.04. It is a relatively crappy quality tightbore, but a tightbore nonetheless.

2. Shouldn't have a problem importing a DMR kit as there is no receiver in the package. That doesn't mean that CBSA won't hold onto it for a while though.

3. Can't confirm the V3 Spring Guide, but the CYMA gearbox is not an exact clone of the TM. CYMA chose to use standard gears versus the proprietary TM gears.

4. No experience with the ARES unit. Replace the rubber first and then decide if you want to replace the whole unit.

5. Yes, you will have to cut down a standard hop-up rubber as the M14 version is shorter than standard.

For the hop up rubber, use Systema preferably, they give the most accuracy, as well as Prometheus.

and by cutting, all you need to do is just use a scissors and literally "cut" from the front, just a little bit.

Little off topic, but I just sold one of these.

Held it, racked the bolt a bit, felt really nice in the hands. Nice weight to it and the textured body is a nice touch.

Is the Cyma M14 able to take aftermarket gearbox shells, like Tokyo Marui's with some mods?

The metal used for the externals are very, very brittle, Just a forewarning.

Baught one off of a freind, Cyma M14 with the fake wood. The metal that stopped the 'bolt' dented quite easily simply from racking it, the faux bolt itself popped out. And the bolt handle had snapped off simply from pulling it back. The metal was easily dented as well, wasn't too happy with that. However, internally I found the gun shot quite nicely. I dunno, I'd save up for a TM and buy it as is. You get great quality inside and out.

I've heard good things about Cyma AK series, just wondered if it could apply to their M14 as well.
