Commandos(The Green Beret)
I'm not sure if this should go here, or in the WWII thread, but anyway.
The guy in the foreground with the beret. Again, the guy with the beret, take note of his clothes. What guns and clothes would I need to get a loadout like his. (Besides going to the gym ) NOTE: I understand I need to be AV'ed, this is just speculation on what brand guns would be best for this character.

Proabably an M42 Paratrooper Jacket (the M43 field jacket and pants could be used), Field pants, Corcoran Paratrooper Boots(or the M43 boots), a light weight Tee, an m-1936 Pistol belt with a 1942 Thompson 5 magazine ammo pouch attached.
Weapons that would be appropriate would be a Thompson and a 1911a1. Cheers. Also for the beret you could use whatever you wanted I suppose. |

The only reason why Im saying that he should be using the Paratrooper stuff. Specifically the m42 stuff is that the only US world war 2 unit was the Darby rangers. And at the time they wore the British commando green beret. It was not until 1955 that the 1st Rangers adopted their own infamous green beret based largely off the Canadian design.
Cheers That jacket is clearly not issue and was probably dreamed up by the boys at EIDOS specifically for the game. It almost looks like a hybrid between german, american and british designs all rolled up and coloured khaki. The gloves look like the "GI SOCK" gloves usually made from a GI wool sock cut open and stiched back together to provide a glove that can keep your hand warm but still allow you access to bear fingers. This was later the irritation to what is often referred to as Smokers gloves. Last edited by Rugger_can; May 21st, 2010 at 09:31.. |

Keep in mind the Character in supposed to be a British commando, not American.
Also, I you look closely, he seems to have ripped the sleeves off his shirt and jacket. Are they just a made up, or based on a real uniform?

My suggestion would be to look up real Brit Commandos, and submit those pictures for clarification, otherwise you might as well have a family member knit it for you and call it whatever you want, because it's all make believe anyways. |

I realize that it's not real,(He looks like a cross between John Wayne and Sylvester Stallone for crying out loud!) what I'm trying to do it get an idea of how to get the shirt/vest thing he's wearing.

Go to the army surplus store, then the thrift store, then home. Take out scissors and ask mom to help you cut off some sleeves.

British Commando's were issued regular P37 or P40 battledress. Though they did manage to snag the odd Denison smock for camo, especially after D-Day.
Though they were elite soldiers doing irregular ops, they were still issued pretty much the standard issue uniforms and kit of the day, they just had a bit of extra leeway for modifying their kit for operations. On the computer game, the beret is too modern, the ones of the day were floppy without stiffeners in the front as they are now, the game seems more inspired by modern special forces (especially American) with all their individualism put onto a historical backdrop. Suffice to say, if you trawled the online database of photographs at the Imperial War Museum, you won't find many pictures of commando's looking like the game, they generally looked like this, some members of 4Commando after a raid on Hardelot, April '42: Note the shorter Commando in the front centre, he has parachutist pants on, they have a larger pocket on the left thigh, and they are all largely wearing the cap comforter instead of the beret, which is a signature clothing item for the Commando's, but was in actuality issued to all servicemen.
