MP5 and MP5K; mechboxes

Hey, I know that MP5s use a V2 Mechbox, and MP5Ks use V3s, but I've never opened up an MP5K, so I dont really know why it would have a V3 instead, anybody care to enlighten me? Whats different from a normal MP5?

Possibly something to do with the hop up and making everything fit? The TM MP5k has a different hop up from the regular TM MP5. At least, the K doesn't have an externally accessible one. That could have something to do with it.

mp5 has a ver3 mechbox on which is fixed a mp5 trigger.
it uses a specific discontinued selector plate and a specific discontinued plastic hop up.
you have to remove the front handle to gain access to the hop-up lever but it's easy since the handle is held by a pin, not a screw.

Same dimensions, but the Mp5K has the battery housed ABOVE the mechbox, the V2 on the MP5 cannot store the battery there. MP5K came after the MP5, therefore I would presume TM did not want to rethink the use the V2 to keep parts universally the same regardless of when the gun was made.

how come it is only MP5K that uses V3 then? Why not all newer MP5s? TM just lazy? I'd buy an MP5 if it had a V3 in it.

Because they started with V2's. Presumably because that's what they had and that's what worked easiest. Later on when V3's became popular or developed it allowed them to develop an MP5K, Or atleast thats what I gathered.

It's more efficient to have larger batteries running on the fore grip or the stock if possible.

also makes the whole system quite a bit simpler.

I find disassembling mp5k's easier than mp5's. Upgrading mp5k is also easier than the mp5, i have both and its really time consuming when you tinker with an mp5 and when something is not right its tiring to do it over again. The v3 gearbox is also a lot sturdier than the v2 which makes my mp5k my favorite in the upgrade department as it now runs at 430fps with some magic tricks ive learned from fellow gunsmiths i know. The only annoying thing in a v3 is the trigger when it comes out as it is a pain to put back in the first few times as with the v2 anti reversal latch that doesnt stay put when putting back together which i later solved by putting silicone gasket in the hole to make it hold in place.

I just wonder why they dont get a clue yet and make all future MP5s with V3s instead of V2s, then the world could live in peace!!
