L96 (any version) Pros and Cons ??

im purchasing the TSD/Well L96 and i was just wondering if anyone can tell me the pros and cons of the gun itself.

As accurate as a low end AEG and will cost you lotsa $$ to keep it running.

Actually...for not a lot of $$...you get a gun shooting usually in the high 400ish. And usually pretty accurate. Will shoot better then a low end AEG. But they are expensive to upgrade and not the best choice for a new player.

That depends. If you just want it to toy with, it's a decent buy and a lot of fun.

However, if you're actually serious about playing the "sniper" role, than you're looking at approx. $1,000 in parts to give it any meaningful advantage. And no, that's not an exaggeration. Even then it will never shoot as well as a higher end BAR.

Pro:
- Looks Cool, Great wall hanger.
- Fairly accurate after upgradeing.
- Everybody and their cat owns one.
- Crawling through Rabbit crap makes great enviromental adaptive camo!

Con:
- Costs a ton of cash to make it a decient.
- Tempermental even when up-graded. High Maintenance.
- People rarely call hit if only hit once and they can't see you.
- Still . . . Only as accurate as the shooter.
- Poision Ivy on your face sucks.
- Its the MP5 of the Sniper world, Eveybody and their cat owns one.

+1 on the $1,000 in parts.

I had a Maruzen one upraded pretty heavily a while back. Was worth well over a thousand bucks. The advantage you get it still not really worth it. You aren't ever going to be pulling off uber 1337 sniper senario's like in movies or some shit. The range advantage is just a bit more. Then accuracy is just a bit better. But what does that matter when you miss your first shot and your enemy barrels down on you with 20 less accurate shots....

I'm not saying don't try it. But do remember, it requires some skill and effort. And the big thing is, again, your weapon does not really give you any advantage in airsoft terms here.

and don't most snipers have the ability to dampen the noise on there gun

From experience, having a SR is not a good choice for starters.

I used to have a 1200$ Maruzen L96... Damn it shot true and straight... but I would have had a LOT more fun at the games I played with it if I had even a cheap AEG...

so you CAN make it quieter, please tell?
if I can increase the range on my AEG and muffle it . . .

basically what I am hearing is sniping is best if you are experienced, anti-new, skilled at it(exceptionally so) you have a slite bit more range and accuracy
and the quietness is about the same?
so the advantages are small? and you have to be SKILLEd to make use of said advantages?

Easy to accomplish, but most of the time expensive.

My most silent rifle however is a JG M4A1, ported the piston, installed a sorbo pad and G5 silencer.

It makes enough difference to make me think that my rifle is broken when I remove the silencer.

Most of the fields that will allow SR will limit them to 450 fps MAX. And you need a side arm that shoots under 350. (Basically any stock GBB pistol). You can also use an MP5/MP7 or P90 if you want (because they are small).

However, if you play sniper, you will find that you are lucky to take 1 shot per game. Sniping is more of a intel gathering/infiltration behavior.

Basically, the range difference is minimal between an AEG and SR. The difference is that the AEG will spread at the effective range. The SR will (should) be more constant to let you predict the patern of the BB.

On the opposite side, a stock AEG running on 8.4v will shoot about 15 bb/sec. You will shoot at MOST 1 bb/sec. when you are VERY used to your rifle with a SR.

Also, the distance between your maximum range and the range of an AEG can be run easily under a second. This means that is you miss, you are dead.

It is not aesthetic when you don't use a longer inner barrel in it, and when the foam/padding is made properly.

I just bought one of these, myself. After seven years of assaulting with an AEG I'm ready for a quiet perch with a ghillie on.
