Smaller Stick Batteries?
So, I've got a G&G Top Tech AK-74u. It's a really fun little gun, great size, and great performance. My issue is that, like all guns of this type, the battery goes in a little tube in the upper receiver. Problem is, that opening is too small for a standard stick battery. I can jam it in there, but it's so tight that it shreds the plastic wrap around the battery, and even scraped one of the wires bare, so it kept shorting out. I tried a small lipo, but, I've only ever had square shaped lipos, which won't fit.
So my question is, are there round NiMh or whatever stick batteries that are smaller (meaning thinner) than the standard size? |

Not Eye Safe, Pretty Boy Maximus on the field take his picture!

You can get AA size, problem is the smaller the cell, the lower the discharge rating, the more voltage you need.
Do the 1000mah lipo sticks not fit? Because those usually fit O_o |

Yeah i was gonna say, the stick battery is prety much made for the ak. Unless either the battery has thick wires and thick heatshrink. Seems odd. Perhaps a pic of the battery being put in the gun so we can see whats rubbuig where.

i got a 7.4v double stick lipo, it fitted my echo1 ak like perfectly..the battery was only like 10 bucks...(well to be fair i ordered a load off stuff so shipping was okay)
also weird that I had a NiMh stick type that fitted the gun just fine too...maybe your battery compartment is somehow smaller? I figure that even the shorter AK74U has the same receiver as an AK...

Normally a stick battery isnt forced into the gas tube of an ak like your describing, it should sit underneath the dust cover on top of the gearbox.

Yeah, sorry, it does sit under the dust cover.
So, here's the gun and a standard battery: ![]() The compartment for the battery: ![]() And the result of trying to fit the battery in to said compartment: ![]() It's a stupidly tight fit, and it's ruining the batteries. I have no idea why, so, I've been looking for something smaller. Maybe the G&G AK74u is just poor made, and they didn't size the compartment properly? |

You shouldnt need to push it so far forward into the gas tube. Could simply be a fitment issue on your brand of ak, another pic like the last one but at more of a 90 degree angle would help.

It's pretty tough to fit it in there without pushing it so far forward. Maybe if I cut the wires down and swapped to Deans connectors I'd have enough space.

If its hard to close because of the excess wire, cutting them down would be your best bet.

Well you can try a 7.4 stick type lipo which fits much better.

Thanks guys, I'll give this a try. Going to swap to deans while I'm at it. Also, for people who own these guns, is it easy to swap the springs in them? I intended this to be an indoor gun, but, it's shooting a little hot.

If its got a quck change spring its easy peasy, if not its still prety easy if you are mechanically inclined. If changing ram on yer pc or a lightbulb i the fridge is a challange then id just have it done by a pro, or semi pro at least. (Semi pro bein a buddy who fixes his own stuff so he at least has the basic skill set)

Go lipo and don't look back at NiMH or LiFePO4
Don't forget to buy a balance charger and a lipo alarm.
