Filling in trades - issue

So I want to fill in some trades with white crayon but I have an issue. Tried to do this before, and I suppose I did my krylon too properly :P, and the surface is a little bit rough (but evenly rough, not uneven).

What this causes is that when I rub the crayon over the trades to fill it, the crayon that is left around the trades on the body sort of works its way into the small roughness of the painted surface. I can get most of the white gone, but what happens is that it leaves the surface rather shiny.

2 questions; 1, is there a way to get the wax away from around the trades after doing this, to restore it to just the painted surface not shiny? (without hurting the paint that is)

Or second, would spraying a fresh coat of Testor's dullcote over top solve this issue, do you think?

Let me know what you guys think.
