All frs and gmrs radios are compatable, they just have different channel ranges. My old frs was 14 channels with 38 subchannels, but my gmrs has 22 channels with 121 subchannels, plus the old frs had a range of 3.2km, the newer gmrs radios have a range of 27km depending on terrain and such. As for mics, just have to check to see if it'll work for that unit, I had a boom mic headset for my gmrs till I finally got a throat mic which cost more then the two radios.
