Maybe start a petition and forward it to airsoft manufacturers? People in the old country have "rifle only" operation Barbarossa themed WW2 events where ratio of SMG and rifles is something like 2 to 10. Mostly custom made rifles of course. Looks really good!
Another thing, have you ever tried blank fire? We have some events over here, not as big as in states of course and it's mostly about immersion, not firing hundreds of rounds. Unlike in airsoft, someone who is firing a Garand or G43 at you from 100 meters will keep peoples heads down
We even tried mixing airsoft and blanks at one point. Worked really well.
