The pin in that trigger group is suppose to act as the spacer. But the problem is the pin itself is too long. If he tightern's it, the trigger bar will always be pushed too far back. If doesn't tighten it enough, the pin snags on the opposite end and impedes the trigger return damaging the the slide itself (...well, a little bit....) or preventing the trigger from returning completely...
