The real stuff is dangerous enough, never mind the kitchen chemistry stuff. Do you really want to be the guy with a glass eye, or three fingers?
You can get "cold" burning smokes from anyplace that sells boats and gear. Cold just means no open flame, the container still gets hot enough to spark a fire in dry tinder.
