What size and type of battery are you using?
Sounds like the battery is dead and that gun comes upgraded for 400FPS, I believe.
A low quality 8.4 battery is not going to last that long in the cold or sometimes have enough strength to crank over a "half" compressed 400 fps spring. I bet if I hooked a bigger battery to the gun when it was jammed as you stated, it would probably pull the spring and fire. Taking off the motor releases the pressure and allows a weaker battery to then start working again until the gun stops in "half cock" where it jams.
Try a good proven battery at least 9.6v and see if you encounter the same problem.
This happened to me years ago and it was all in the battery not the gun.
