Famas 350 fps upgrade

Hello

I want to play around and upgrade my Famas to 350 fps plus.

My idea is the fallowing

120 spring (suggestion are welcome)

bushing (bearing 6mm)

Piston head (suggestion are welcome)

I have 2 mech boxes to play with, so if you have any other configs or suggestions send them my way.

put in a prommy MS100SP, some metal bushings (not bearings, or bearings on the bevel gear), and any piston head you want, although you could consider the modify bearing piston head?

Why not put bearing for bushings?

yuhaoyang August 24th, 2009 16:51

because bearings aren't meant for high impact applications. Also the smaller the ball bearings are; usually the weaker they become (this is excluding quality comparison between lets say ACM and prometheus parts), anyways, 6mm bearings will be pretty weak. The bevel gear takes the least stress and spins the fastest out of the 3 gears, so 2 bearings and 4 bushings wouldn't be a bad idea.

OK

So I will stick with the metal bushings...

I just brought up my brothers FAMAS to 350, only changed spring and bushings, PDI130 (which was somehow shooting 400ish) and 6mm steel bushings. Maybe I should have got a V2 steel spring guide and cut the nub off for the famas mechbox. I ended cutting off about an inch from the spring to drop the fps down.

Here's my post of FAMAS problems. http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=87781

Goodluck

So if I put a PDI120... I should be OK

honestly, from what I've been told and have read I'd stay away from PDI springs all together. Get a good quality modify spring. it might be $10 more but $10 to make sure your one of a kind FAMAS internals don't e'splode on you is worth it in my eyes.

What do you suggest as a spring to buy?

What brand?

What tention?

I've had a handfull PDI 150% springs come across my bench, and they've been from 350fps to 425fps (and a pain to install), and different lengths too. The 350fps one I have is 6 3/8" long, most of the others were closer to 7", and had one that was right on 7" long. Nutshell, scrap that spring (any PDI spring is garbage that'll end up wrecking your gun), buy a Modify 90 from airsoftparts, install and have fun playing. That spring should keep you under 350fps (considering the long barrel in it), it nets me around 330fps in one of my MP5s.

That was the advice I was given and Stalker is a knowledgeable guy so I'd trust what he says.

FAMAS UPGRADE question

My stock famas only 240fps while using 8.4v stock battery. Can I use a LIPO 20C battery but the gear box will last?I also brought a Element M135 spring....

If you wanna fire between 350 and 400 use something like a guarder sp110. Search around to find out what company you like best but any 110 spring should give you what you're looking for. They don't require gear replacement, and don't put too much tension on your motor. If you go 120 or higher get steel gears, and shim it perfect.
