My thoughts on my newly purchased WE M4A1 GBB

I purchased the version 2 with the lighter paint and colt trademarks. However, only after about 1 week of owning the gun and not even firing more than 200-300 rounds, the gun seems to be failing at an alarming rate.

I made a youtube video for anyone who wants to check it out.... Sorry for the loud gum chewing. I like gum! lol

http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmaWTcLGTD4

1. The charging handles lever just broke and blew off while firing. It actually hit me in the face! It appears to be made of really cheap metal. I replaced with KA tactical latch.

2. The rear body pin cannot be removed simply by pushing it out like in videos I've seen, must be hammered out.

3. Hopup adjustment does not move at ALL!

4. Mag now leaks to a point where I cannot fire more than 15-20 rounds

5. Front barrel unscrews itself while firing. I had to use plumbers tape on the threads to stop this from happening.

6. Brand new, the delta ring came very loose. I had extreme barrel wobble. After removing the gas tube and front assembly I managed to tighten the delta ring and fix the problem. But still, wtf?

7. Bolt catch no longer pops out when all rounds have been fired (possibly due to the leaky mag, not sure yet. But it seems like another malfunction of the magazine. There is a pin that's supposed to pop up when the bb's have run out reguardless of whether or not there is gas inside the mag.

That's A LOT of problems!!! I'm somewhat disappionted.

Accuracy is below average. I'm really missing my AEG because of this. In full auto the grouping is downright terrible. It just spreads all over the place like firing a shotgun. The mags are limited to 30 rounds so you'll get use to reloading. The ROF is OK, but a lot lower than AEG's.

From 30 feet away I use to be able to hit the bullseye with my AEG almost everytime in semi-auto. With the GBB most of the shots will end up on the target area, but hitting the bullseye is pure luck. Hopefully upgrades in the future will fix this problem. I'm really looking forward to some upgrades. This thing feels like a prototype.

Plus sides are that the recoil is very cool and that the body is built very solid. It's the most realistic M4 I've ever seen.

Hey, check that the silver ring on the outer has the smaller side facing in, the outer barrel should conceal the whole thing, I did that on mine and it no longer unscrews itself.

It looks cool when its actually working right, which is a pretty realistic discription of a real M4 :P

BTW what FPS are you getting with that thing?

cbcsteve January 31st, 2009 11:36

Woah hey I just saw that video before this post came, good stuff

Anyway I got to test out aZn_triXta07's WE M4A1 GBB and the trigger response is wonderful and very quick to. On Semi you can almost go full auto if you tap very quickly.

Agreed, Trixta's M4 made me wet, I now no longer want a PTW. :| Though I suppose I'll be waiting a while as the list of replacement parts are low for the moment.

Hrrrm... Sofar it seems WA and WE are a "no-go" for a skirmishable M4 GBB..

Go go Inokatsu!

Inokatsu is just the WA but pimped out with metal lol.

However, the Inokatsu and WA do have a whole shitloada custom parts you can purchase directly from RA-TECH.

500 fps with .20gs though ....ouch much?

mcguyver January 31st, 2009 12:10

Inokatsu is simply an upgraded WA.

They are skrimishable, as long as you carry gas and enough mags to be effective.

Cost for a usable GBB would be the same as a PTW, but unless the U.S. allows them in, the technology isn't going to progress as fast as we'd hope. If companies can't sell them to the big US market, and they are limited to the dozen that will come to Canada and whatever the Asian countries use, it's not going to get a slough of aftermarket upgrades.

I wonder how long it will be before Canada follows the US in prohibiting these guns? All you need is a trigger group, bolt carrier assembly and barrel and you have a functional AR. How long it lasts though is debatable, but that's why the U.S. won't let them in.

I believe the future of airsoft is all gas-blow-back, they just need to get it "right."

I don't know where you got this, but I know of several legitimate retailers in the US stocking WE's.

Also, i retract all my previous comments about the WE M4... its an insane piece of gun, after plinking at it in the shop for an hr i am truely impressed by the recoil and its reliability. same goes for the GHK AK74U. IN SHORT, im in love with GBB rifles...lolz i now wait till i return to Canadia~ so i can get one local in CAN.

apparantly US is still a no go for the WE gun due to its design. apparantly you can drop in a real AR trigger module in it...so the ATF is still trying to determine if its allowed down south

Very interesting, no problems with cool down?

Not cheap to game with though, a full loadout of mags would probably run you at least the cost of an average aeg.

As to the fail rate, this is a WE GBB, that kinda goes with the territory.

Hmmm, I don't really get what you mean. The part that unscrews itself is the center section which is used to swap from the M4 length to the CQB length barrel. Please help me understand.

BTW, do you have the same problems as I do with the hopup not budging and the rear body pin being really tight?

thanks!

The takedown pin may be tight because it's bent, or the holes in the receivers (could be in the upper or lower) are a tad undersized or filled with the finish material.

I've had to ream them out a bit before, even with a real AR upper.

There are definitely problems with cool down. I'm looking forward to the CO2 mags, even though the cartridges will cost more than household propane, their benefits outweigh the costs. Higher FPS, more reliable mags, less crap to carry, no dangerous propane fumes (if you're using in confined spaces), no cooldown and more consistent FPS.

After firing a full mag if I instantly refill and use it again, the gun does not function properly. The gas just starts spewing out from the ejection port. So carry lots of mags.
