Helmet waffen SS indentification
 

Hi Folks,
Im not sure im at the right place but, this section will be probably the best place to find information about that helmet.

Its suppose to be a real one, its stamps ET64 inside the helmet.

Im trying to get more information about this.

May be a genuine M35 shell under there, but the paint job and sketchy decals scream "sexed up postwar to try and fool the gullible". I would proceed with extreme caution. A legitimate postwar LAH parade helmet would go for thousands and thousands, what is the asking price on this?

Very skillful fakes/repros have been made for decades. Unless you are a serious nerd your chances of being burned buying "original" German militaria is very, very high. Tread lightly.

I would post that up in the Wehrmacht Awards Forum. Helmets section. What's the asking price? I would be VERY wary of that one!! Shell and possibly liner look legit.

Yea, Eastern Europe has many places that make high end replicas. People are trying to sell them as originals all the time on Russian/Ukrainian boards. They even make "deactivated" guns that sometimes pass like originals...

I picked up a genuine M35 helmet, out of all places, on the freecycle pages a few years back.

Story of provenance, is that it was a capture trophy in Norway by a resistance fighter. It was brought to Canada when the owner emigrated in the early 50's. It was later used as a motorcycle helmet, and heavily over-painted in a red/blue brush-on motif.

The helmet had painted on the inside surface, with what i assume was the original German owner's surname.

I was able to carefully remove much of the over-paint to reveal fragmentary remnants of the original side insignia (no SS runes .. only the Bundeswehr (regular army) shield). Before the helmet had been over-painted, it had evidently been scoured, removing most of the paint/insignia detailing. I cleaned the helmet up, and applied a simple overcoat of matt black to keep corrosion at bay. I left the interior of the helmet, with it's original markings/painted 'owner' name intact.

It has all of the original webbing/liner/strapping in reasonably good shape - albeit somewhat age-hardened.

No value to me, except intrinsic .. I had several relatives that served in WW2 on the home-front, as war-workers and on the front-lines. Two were on opposing sides, in the Italian campaigns.

Not too shabby, for a freecycle item.

Almost no SS in Norway, so that's not a surprise. German army didn't become the Bundeswehr until postwar, before then it was known as the Heer.

Original, unjacked-with M35s are pretty valuable. Even a stripped and repainted shell like yours can go for a couple hundred to reenactors who will refinish it.

The OP's LAH M35....the liner looks very reddish brown. Post War Norwegian re-issued liners had the leather colorized a reddish brown. Also rpleced the the pins with brass ones. If there's brass furniture on that liner it's most likely a norwegian re-issued liner. And the shell, well you know.

The people there are life-long collectors who can tell you everything you need to know about this helmet.

This helmet does appear to be modified, and I as an individual would be very doubtful about its authenticity.

Nonetheless, head to the link I sent you and post the pictures. You will get a definitive answer there.
