AK or M14 platform for DMR

So me and my small team were thinking of assigning roles when we will start playing outdoors. After ditching the idea of becoming a sniper because it doesn't really appeal to me. I was researching that a DMR (designated marksman rifle), it appealed to me because its a half in half of a sniper and riflemen.

I was thinking of either getting an AK or m14 platform to use for this role with a scope and bipod. Most likely I will get a cyma AK (47,74,AKM) or cyma m14 (socom or full size) because their cheaper so i can do upgrades like a Tbb, and new bucking. I'm not really good with gearboxes yet so I'm not sure what other upgrades other then that.

So other then personal preference is there any other pros or cons. Are version 3 gearboxes easier to work on then version 7's, and do AK's have more upgrades available then m14s?

IMO if you want a DMR, take the M14. In my head an AK is not made to be a DMR and damn the M14 is sexy (even more with real wood)

There's nothing wrong with either as a DMR. While AK's in the real world aren't exactly DMR material, in airsoft their internals make for a great consistent platform.

Just deck it out with a PBS style suppressor, POSP 4x scope and you have a pretty badass looking rifle.

Its just really what gun appeals to you more.

If I were to buy a AK what model would you recommend I heard anything above 35 is good?

In my opinion the M14 makes a much better looking DMR. The AK is a million times easier to work on than any M14 design, but both will require the same type of work to be a viable DMR and outshoot a standard upgraded airsoft gun.

Building a DMR isn't just sticking in a TBB and new hop up rubber, especially with a CYMA gun. Their lousy part fitting, loose tolerances and very poor air seal require more fixing and tuning than a higher quality brand. Everyone changes their hop up and runs aftermarket barrels anyway, so you won't have any advantage whatsoever. You should expect to spend several hundred dollars in quality upgrade parts to build a viable DMR that has noticeably more effective range and even then the extended range over a standard upgraded airsoft gun is not incredible.

I went M14, and I will never regret it. My wallet might.

So it would be a better choice to choose an AK because its easier to work on. But a M14 fits more of the role and looks better, is that's the final conclusion.

in airsoft, AK's make decent DMRs
in reality, M14 is the way to go
from a technical standpoint of the internal workings, the M14 IS better. The mechboxes are on par with eachother, both very good performance wise. But the M14 has a superior hop chamber.

As far as working on your mechbox, how often are you REALLY going to be working on it? Because if you're planning to have it break down every week, you might as well buy an ICS lol
