Mosfet Comparison
 

So I did a little searching. I've seen them mentioned plenty of times. I realize there are many out there.

I know of the Trigger Master, Cheetah and AWS.

I'd really like to get a Sentry from AWS.
But that seems like a freakin impossible option. Everyone's sold out and no one's taking pre-orders (not even airsoftparts.ca)

So what other options are out there?
The inline lipo monitoring/ROF control and burst options are what interest me.

I have tried all the cheetah variants and the ASCU's along with 3 versions of the trigger master over the last 6 years and the raptor is terrifyingly good and well up to scratch. U could check out the stealth for a cheaper option but the raptor is by far and away better than any mosfet I've tried yet. big up point is that it sits in yer gearbox with no bulky computer unit at the back.

run 3 of em and well worth the money, easy install as well ;D

AWS also doesn't sell directly to individual customers anymore and canadian retailers will be out for ages yet so u might be a little out of luck. I bought my last one from www.tigertacticalairsoft.com about 3 months ago but unsure if they'll have any left but stock is usually fast coming back in with em.

Yea, I have one gun running the ASCU and it works amazingly well. However, the massive computer unit in the back is annoying to fit in a stock/buffer tube in conjunction with a battery.
I'm really looking forward to the next time Airsoft Parts has some of the AWS Raptors in stock. They sold out in record time. They look like they do more than the ASCU with a much smaller size and a better installation process.

As an aside to this, what's the best basic-but-not-shitty Mosfet to buy (no lipo monitoring, no ROF programming; SA/FA only)?
Looking for quality of materials first, ease of installation second.

Aws is out of stock everywhere it seems.

I sent an email to AWS and they said that a new batch should be in stock around friday.

I love the raptor, I just regret that I didnt buy 2 ...

Be Patient and look around. They get shipped everywhere so take a look at some places in Britian. Shipping to Canada is about $14 bucks and its fast!

I bought two Raptors from airsoftparts the day they appeared, have installed one so far and it gets a massive thumbs up from me. I'm super impressed.

A friend of mine also bought a Raptor but his unit came DOA. Definitely a bummer on a piece of hardware that is so hard to get.

I'm not sure if he's talked to Jugglez about it yet.

Would be nice if they came out with one for a G36.

MacieKA, please give us a long term use report on this later. Some users are reporting that the microswitch are getting crunched by the trigger force.

AWS used to make a basic FET called the microfet. Sadly it's being discontinued due to its "obsolete" design so ppl looking for basic fet functionality are SOF. :( Check out Ebay.com. THere are some American sellers selling half decent Fets and are willing to ship to Canada.

Maybe Jugglez could stock MOSFET for other guns.

I've staged the Raptor in three different V2 mechboxes, a DBoys, G&P, and King Arms. Installation was completed in only one of these, the G&P. The DBoys PDW selector plate is metal and special for the ambi selector so I need to wait to get a backup before I do any crazy mods; the one intended for the King Arms M4 came DOA; the G&P one installed flawlessly and works absolutely fine. Here it is staged in the G&P mechbox:

It's easy to see how the trigger could mash/snap the microswitch if the unit is too close to the trigger or if the trigger has too much volume at the top of the hammer. When you install the Raptor you MUST take the time to calmly test all three microswitches to ensure nothing is too tight. The cutoff lever switch, the selector plate switch, and the trigger switch.

You can get the trigger switch to work well and prevent catastrophe if you ensure that it is only allowed to travel about 70-80% of its distance towards the PCB. That way the trigger physically cannot hammer it into the Raptor unit even if you lent out your gun to a careless newbie.

I'll try to report back as I play around. I haven't had a lot of time to tinker with this thing and I don't fully understand how it works yet. For example, the default settings are fine out of the box, but I'm not sure how to make them stick between battery swaps, or if that's even possible. It's really easy to program, though.

The V3 raptor is coming.

In the meantime, you can look at the Extreme-Fire MOSFETs, they range from simple to pretty sophisticated and the guy who makes them, Gandolf ( link to his profile on airsoft mechanics ), is a super helpful guy and pretty much engages anyone who asks him anything about his MOSFETs or suggests new projects/ideas for them.. This guy seems to really love what he does.

I've seen some rumours that he and another ASM regular may be working on a drop-in FET to compete with the AWS Raptor. Gandolf's software for these things is open source (and VERY easy to read and understand) and the guy is an order of magnitude more responsive and accessible than AWS, so a drop-in unit from Extreme-Fire would be awesome.

I used to make some, but people tend not to listen when you say don't use a battery under 7.4v... so I don't sell them anymore, just use them in my own guns and friends'.

You can order the FET yourself online and just build one. If you can change the wires off a trigger block, you can make one.

A good series of FETs that is cheap are the SUM110Nx from Vishay Siliconix. Theses where the ones I used. They have 240A continuous, but limited to 125A by the D2PAK package. Also have threshold GD voltage at 6.4v, so a low-voltage battery pack that is empty will let the FET go in triode state and overheat quite fast, leading to a catastrophic failure.
