Their hats look very similar to the "tilley" hats I was issued when I was a cadet, with the addition of CADPAT (AR) loops and cat-eyes on the back:

Nice pics! Just wondering, why would civillian police be in afghanistan?

the mission is now to train afghan police force IIRC so ... MPs are probably not enough for that I guess ?

Mentoring and assistance, liaison work, sometimes simply for experience that you cant obtain in country. Happens in more then just afghanistan too.

Halifax Police has awarded officers for service in sudan, kosovo, bosnia, east timor, sierra leone, haiti, israel and even afghanistan.
