Good Fieldable radios?
 

Hi all! So, I want to add a field radio to my kit! But I don't really know what to buy, I want something with a good range, reliable (rain, cold, you know 'em!!), basically, a good radio system, but not just a "Walkie Talkie"!!! Something more "military"!

Is that what you want?
Or a programmable VHF-UHF radio?
If it's the later, do a search, it's discussed in lenght.
Try the Puxing radio. (Techseller sell them) Best bang for your buck.

sorry off topic, but your from St-Elzéar, I'm from New Carlisle. that caught my interest.

I just ordered a Wouxun KG-UVD1 UHF-VHF radio. I`m going to program the North American FRS GMRS frequencies in along with the FRS frequencies from my teams Hong Kong blister pack Motorollas. This way I can be in contact with both sets of radios.

+1 with what Fox said about the Puxing radio's. My DevilDogs team all have these radios and they work very well and have a great range, plus you can go into a radio mode and listen to tunes during a game while out in the field.:rolleyes:

I love my wouxun kg-uvd1. Easy to program and does all I need. Excellent range and it's transmit volume is outstanding as per teammates, who's only complaint is it's too loud since they have to crank it up to head the cheap motos and cobras.

Added a 39cm antenna remotely located on my the back of my rig with an extension for maximum range. Also was done to maintain maximum antenna height while keeping the radio accessible but out of my face. (radio is in a front mag pouch)

I only wish I could key up and transmit on the second channel remotely. But I'm not sure it's possible at this price range. It's not a true dual channel but rather dual channel monitoring as you can only transmit on the one it's set for. Though it's easy to hit the A/B button to switch, I've run a second radio with an H250 handset or the volume on mute with a shoulder mic when playing RTO in a milsim. Much easier to manage and I can pass off the H250 to my CO when required.

Get a good 5-watt radio. Maybe something from our own Techseller (he's a retailer of radios/flashlights/etc on ASC)

I agree that the Puxing PX-888 and the Wouxun KG-UVD1P are great radios for the price. If you are seriously into MILSIM, I would say to pay the extra amount for the Wouxun to get the UHF and VHF capability:

It is easy to program, spare parts are readily available, they have a high capacity 1700 MAh battery available, and it (and the Puxing) take standard Kenwood two pin speaker mics and headsets. Here in the US the Wouxun has an extra advantage that it is certified for commercial and government use.
