Hard Cases

Someone once told me of a brand for Hard pistol cases and rifle cases that look similar to the STAR cases. I beleive it was at the WP Primary May 24 game. Can anyone remember, or help me find one?

BassPro

Just don't leave them in the middle of the floor when we're trying to sweep up...

roughshadow May 26th, 2007 18:30

a few questions

Are they lockable?
Can they be used to hold anything?(the square ones with foam)

DarkAngel May 26th, 2007 19:26

What about the Rifle Case Version? Any of them look like a similar style?

Heh, will have to go bug LUTNIT bout this, but the warrenty on the Pelicans is that they will hold up to anything except shark attacks and children under the age of 5!

LUTNIT May 27th, 2007 10:20

you forgot about bear attacks!

I have a Pelican laptop case, thing has been smashed around and only has some very minor scratches on it, have had it for a year now. Warranty says if it breaks, they will replace it, forever, but in fine print it says the warranty is void in the case of shark bites, bear attacks, and children under 5. Don't ask me...

The Pelican cases don't look like the STAR cases, it fact the STAR cases look like Pelican cases. The pelican line of cases is what STAR based their design off of, they aren't nearly the same quality of course but still fairly decent. I think my laptop case is guaranteed against a 20 foot drop onto concrete without damaging anything inside, floats with up to 17lbs of stuff inside, waterproof to 30 feet or something, pressure equalizing membrane so if you change altitude the fact that the case is sealed doesn't mean it will suction close or blow open. Its made of fiber reinforced structural foam injected molded plastic so it can easily stand up to being run over by a hummer or other large vehicles and remain rigid. Pelican simply makes damn fine cases, looking into getting a 1720 case for my AEG's (the 1750 wont fit into many car trunks, need a truck.)

And if you need a Pelican case with a custom interior, there is a Canadian company that can do it and do often work making custom inserts for firearms so talking about guns with them is no big deal. http://www.customcaseco.com/

DarkAngel May 27th, 2007 10:28

yea but the catalog only shows 1 rifle case, and it doesnt look as good as the STAR rifle case. But im definately gonna get the pelican one for my pistol.
You wouldnt by any chance Be willing to sell your STAR Rifle case Brian would you? I love the way it looks.

Theres the entire Pelican line. There are 4 cases specifically for rifles in different sizes to accommodate differently sized weapons and depending on what you have you can use smaller cases. The P90 for example uses a smaller case and you can get P90 specific foam inserts ordered from Pelican in the states: http://www.casesbypelican.com/military/p90.htm G36c also has a case like the P90 since when the stock is folded its so short.

Ask anyone that has seen both, the STAR case is garbage in comparison. I had a STAR M249 that came with the hard case and it was nice but the quality control, wall thickness, and general feel of the case is terrible compared to a Pelican case. If the STAR cases where truly better they would be a lot more expensive and the military/PMC's would be using them instead of Pelican cases.

HellRanger May 27th, 2007 11:10

Get a "Storm Case" they are expensive but just a little short of Bomb proof!

No shit! Le Baron has the Pelican Rifle Case, price....................

$325CDN! Super cases though, you can custom fit the foam to your rifle (come to think of it, one guy here in Ottawa, Pronto Bombo, actually shelled out the coin for a Pelican case and has the foam cut out nice for his M4 and other accessories. I was mildly jealous when I first noticed it was a Pelican case!) A hardshell case for the same price as a used AEG.............. wow!

DarkAngel May 27th, 2007 11:23

honestly tho XD what am i gonna do with a bombproof case?

I just dont like how it looks... too thin, like a music instrument case.
Pelican 1780 Case
Now THAT is a sexy case, holds 10 M4s :D
now.. i just have to save up for 10 M4s LOL

Pelican 1720 Gun Case
doesnt look bad either

problem is pelican doesnt make larger pistol cases.
they all JUST barely fit my pistol, i wanna be able to put a QD6 Laser/Taclite unit in as well as 3 of my mags etc etc

DarkAngel May 27th, 2007 12:01

i ment the other one that was listed on the lebaron site.

They dont have the Star style ones. I like those because they have a cool bulk look to the case, like in SG:Atlantis etc. I have the BPShop one atm, and it looks fugly XD

The cases used in Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis ARE Pelican cases, as are almost all hard case style cases in most TV series and movies. If you want bulky look at the Pelican 1550, 1600, or 1650. If you think the Pelican cases are thin check the external dimensions, even the smallest rifle case the 1700 is more than 6" thick, my Canadian Tire gun cases are only 4-5" thick. What sized gun are you putting in this case? If its only an M4, P90, G36c, or something else small you can get the shorter cases that are much deeper, only time your limited to the larger cases (1720, 1750, etc.) is when you have a long rifle like an M16, G36, M249 Mk.II, M60, etc.

I still am waiting for a quote for the 1750 case. Got a BA sniper... I don't want to have to disassemble it everytime I store it.

I know a guys that buys around 20-30 cases a week from them... so he gets a good price (and sometimes free cases too)

I held one of these cases and I can tell you.. you can run over it with a F350 loaded with plywood. We did it and the case did not even bent. Very impresive...

LUTNIT May 29th, 2007 06:58

Some times you can get am for a steal on eBay, saw one once for US$150 shipped, new, but they only shipped with UPS.

Currently looking at getting one of these
http://cgi.ebay.ca/PELICAN-1720-GREE...QQcmdZViewItem
tad cheaper than buying from a Canadian retailer, not much but hey, its OD!

beaver box or uk case

star uses uk cases, beaver box is a replica of pelican. theres a distributer in edmonton.

Dracheous May 29th, 2007 12:05

DarkAngel, I'm starting to doubt that you've read what the people are trying to tell ya here; STAR based theirs off the Pelican, the Pelicans are trice the price because they are ten times better. Pelicans come in a huge assortment of sizes, everything from one big enough to store a wrist watch all the way up to store 6 or so M4's.

Pelican doesn't make its cases simply just for rifles and pistols, they make their cases universal that anyone could use them for just about anything. In fact saw this new Carry-on time and now me wantee:

http://www.customcaseco.com/1514.jpg

And for a pistol case whats wrong with this one?

http://www.customcaseco.com/1450.jpg

It'd be about the same size as my double pistol case and I could fit two 5.1 Hicappa and a G26 in mine; albeit a snug fit.

More info on the 1450:
# Outside Dim.: 16" L x 13" W x 6 7/8" D.
# Inside Dim.: 14 13/16" L x 10 3/8" W x 6 " D.
# Colors:

X-treme Cases

There is also a line of cases by X-treme Cases, they are similar to Pelican but much less in cost. They are also indestructible and have the pick-and-pluck foam for your handgun. You can find them online at http://www.northstarcases.com/produc...tol+Cases.aspx

OOoooh! i see now :D I was reading the posts, the cases just look a bit different. And alot of the pics of them on the site show the inside only, not the external. Also im having difficulty telling which of these cases are rifle cases and which are not. So far ive seen 3 Rifle cases (Including the 12 rifle case) but i havent seen any "actual" pistol cases though i see many which could be used as one. Do the foam inserts come precut? or does everyone cut their own foam inserts, and how can i do it to look professionally done. (I hate hacking and slashing foam) :D
Im really liking the idea of getting a nice Pelican case for my pistol first since the Rifles ones seem REALLY expensive for me atm. But ive went through the Diff Pelican Cases from the Custom Case co link and i have a ruler here with me. Ive looked at the inner size and measured my pistol but I realized i wanted somethign bigger. I was hoping to put 3 mags and a Star QD6 Laser/Taclite Unit Detached with the pistol as well. Im using my rifle case to transport my Pistol atm. Also the reason i like deep cases is cause i have the Guarder padded Extra Battery + 5.56 Bullet holder cheekpad on my stock, and while thats on, I have to force the case closed to lock it so for now i have to remove it when i lock my gun up or transport it. Im really looking to get them in the future tho. Thanks to all that replied :D Ive learned alot about Gun Cases that id never learn anywhere else. Much Appreciated to everyone.

Cheers!

Edit: Oh wow, that case is perfect size :o and only 130$ *shock*
i dunno how i missed that. thanks :D Ill start saving for one

If price is your issue then take a look at Hardigg Storm Cases. I have one of their rifle cases for my M4 and the thing is rock solid. Its a bit lighter in weight than my friends Pelican version, but it is cheaper and supposedly just as solid. Another friend of mine got one to test and evaluate when he was in the military and we beat the crap out of it. I live on the 3rd floor and we were throwing it to the ground loaded with some of my dumbell weights. The thing didnt crack or even scratch (although we only threw it onto my driveway once and into my yard many times). The foam inside is different though. I know Pelican uses a pick and pluck foam which allows you to just pick out the hollow points. It seems like an easier way but I cant complain after seeing the price difference. I would shop around too. I found that their prices aren't consistant between all of their distributers and I got it cheaper at this site: http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetac...tail.bok?no=59

AcidFire June 25th, 2007 04:56

To those of you who own the the 1750 case, would you be able to cut into both sides, essentially doubling the carrying capacity? I'm planning to have my sl9 and g36c in one half and mags and accessories in the other, but before I commit to getting the case I want to know if everything will fit first.

pOkiE June 25th, 2007 09:29

acidfire...I just measured my Hardigg and, from what I have read online, it has thicker internal dimensions than Pelicans 1750. I dont think you would be able to put 2 guns inside without sacrificing padding. I could probably fit 2 rifles in my case but I would need some sort of retention to hold my rifle in place on the lid and would have maybe a half inch or less padding between my rifles and the case itself. If this is for storage and transportation then I am sure that this is more than enough. I have read in forums that people epoxy webbing to the inside of their cases and add velcro for use as retention but I have only seen this used to hold mags in the lid. Multiple straps will probably be necessary in order to hold a rifle. Hope this helps buddy!

AcidFire June 25th, 2007 12:42

heh, thanks pokie but I meant both guns on one side and the mags and bits on the other :P and if i were to cut into the lid for retention i'd make sure the fit was tight enough to keep everything in place :D

pOkiE June 27th, 2007 06:27

both on one side eh....i havent seen a case that can do that. i have seen the pelican ones that hold like 8 or so m4s but its crazy expensive and somewhat overkill for what youre going to use it for. Maybe you can look into the specs of the military type cases...they might have some that will fit an m4 or two...

AcidFire June 27th, 2007 07:27

well I've been playing with tape on the floor and so far it looks like both will fit, just need the case to be sure.

TKO-Wildcard June 30th, 2007 01:09

I have a Pelican case for my shotgun and match rifles. Personally, the pressure valves, and foam, and locking latches are pretty nifty to have. However theres one major set back besides the price of the Pelicans... They're heavy as #@% to carry around. No problem if you're driving but if you ever had to commute, its a pain in the ass to lug around. I have another case purchased from marstar that is similar to the pelican with its features, but is a fraction of the cost and weight.

As for pistol cases, you're best bet is any gun shop. They usually carry a variety of hard cases along the lines of what you're looking for.

pOkiE July 4th, 2007 01:33

the pelican that my friend has is pretty heavy as well...especially when fully loaded. I have seen the valve on his pop out suddenly on few occasions and the locking mechanism is sometimes quite hard to unlock. we have both scraped our share of knuckles trying to pop those things open...the hardiggs are lighter and the latches only open easily when you specifically pop the tab. are you planning to store your guns fully loaded(ie: sight, light, mag, laser, etc) if youre just going with the bare rifle and maybe light/laser on side rails, you may be able to fit your 2 guns in there if you invert it. the foam will be sparse but it just may be possible depending on the length of the guns.

BBS July 4th, 2007 02:50

i have a pelican 1200 case too. but hey its a good tradeoff, its lead weight for its features; thank God its crush-proof, plus its water-tight and it automatically regulates pressure.

"you get what you pay for"

Pelican is the "Systema" of cases.
