My M16a3

:-) I am sooo happy! I just got home from the local army surplus store, and I bought this beautiful 1:1 M16a3! I'll get some pics of it ASAp, but my camera is acting weird. It has a med cap magazine, laser pointer w/pressure pad, R.I.S. rail on bottom of barrel and on top of receiver (where the inronsight is). Also has functional T-handle, mag release, and selector switch.
It is a very nice gun. :-)

Greylocks December 23rd, 2005 15:47

Let me guess, Cyma, Crosman, or something like that?

Shooter December 23rd, 2005 15:48

Some other Japenese company. Whats wrong with that? Thats all I can afford right now.

Bob the Angry Potato December 23rd, 2005 15:49

Uh.. which Japanese company?

nutboi December 23rd, 2005 15:50

who said there was anything wrong with it yet. so...what company is it?

Shooter December 23rd, 2005 15:50

On the box it says "Aika".

Manaconda December 23rd, 2005 15:53

Hey if it was all you could afford and you like it that's cool just as long as you know you'll be spending alot more in the future. I did the exact same thing so I'm not bashing you. I just wish I had have saved that money and put it towards some thing diffrent.

Have fun and good for you. Lets see those pics.

Shooter December 23rd, 2005 15:54

Ok, thx. I cant get the pics rite now cause my camera is acting weird. Lemme try again.

Bob the Angry Potato December 23rd, 2005 15:55

Hmm... 'Aika'.
Never heard of it, for some reason...
You have any idea how hard it shoots?

Shooter December 23rd, 2005 15:56

Sorry, no go on the camera.
Shoots pretty low, only 230 fps. Not bad for an "Aika".

Shooter December 23rd, 2005 15:58

Ya, I havent heard of Aika either. I searched for a website but there was none. If you are wondering, I got it at Oakville Outdoors and Surplus.

Bob the Angry Potato December 23rd, 2005 15:59

Ah... advertised velocities are usually wrong, so I doubt its 230 fps. Try chronying it when you have the chance...
Here's a few things,
1) Can it go through a sheet of cardboard, paper, or just tissue?
2) ROF?
3) Battery type?
4) Internals?
Try shooting some coke cans or something, and post some pictures.

EDIT: Oakville Outdoors and Surplus? Hell, I'm in Oakville for the holidays, I gotta check this out.

Shooter December 23rd, 2005 16:02

Well, goes thru paper, tissue for sure, Lol; almost goes thru cardboard (BB sticks out halfway). Im not sure about the internals and such because I jsut got it like an hour ago. When I come back from Sudbury (leaving an 10min) I will post the pics.

Bob the Angry Potato December 23rd, 2005 16:03

Ah... I'll hazard-guess around 200 FPS.
Sure, that'd be great...
You know where that store is? I need directions, may head over there sometime, and I'm from Nova Scotia (Thus, I don't live here and have no idea where it is).

Shooter December 23rd, 2005 16:06

Speers road in Oakville. Try Mapquest.com for directions. Correction: box says "Yika". http://www.oakvilleoutdoorsurplus.com/

Website does not have airsoft guns on it.

Bob the Angry Potato December 23rd, 2005 16:07

Ah, excellent. I'll try to head over sometime, but I can't bring back anything on the plane with me, and I don't feel like shipping...
Besides, I hate Armalites. Still, I'd like to see what this thing is.

Shooter December 23rd, 2005 16:09

You probably wont find it as good as your $800 marui watever u have, but as I said, Im a beginner and thats Ill I can afford rite now.

Bob the Angry Potato December 23rd, 2005 16:11

Nah, I have a $450 Marui FA-MAS.
It's OK, just the fact it's a brand I've never heard of has sparked my interest.
I checked, it's a 10 minute drive from where I am...

Shooter December 23rd, 2005 16:13

Ok, cool. Also, its probably nowhere near as good as a Marui, but It'll do for now. Thats too bad you cant bring on th plane, lol. They got a whole new shippment of springers from $30 and AEG's from $169

Bob the Angry Potato December 23rd, 2005 16:16

Ah... I find there's no real point to spring pistols (I mean, no-one skirmishes with them), so I think they should pull the cheaper more abundant ones from the shelves... I hope to God they don't have these on display.

Greylocks December 23rd, 2005 16:19

In general, you cant find anything decent for less than $600. If less, they tend to break really fast.
Save your money next time. Learning with a bad gun is not good, it wont even give you a faint idea for what airsoft really is.

Shooter December 23rd, 2005 16:19

My M16a3 looks exactly like this:

Hey, my brand-new FA-MAS was 455... it's great, durable as hell, and has an ROF from Hell. Plus, quite a few guns are under 600, including half the Marui guns (Minus batteries and chargers). I'd lower that to about 330, the cheapest price of a new MP5K (Actually, that'd be an exception. 450 should be the proper number)
Hmm... doesn't look too bad. Might make for a nice project gun... perhaps, with a lot of work, you could somehow drop a nice mechbox into that...

Atomic_235 December 23rd, 2005 18:48

I saw your M16 in many US shop like Icefire. It's a springer. Also, this is not a M16 A3, it don't have the rail on the top. It's a M16 A1 with the M16 A2 hanguard and lot of little accessories...
Save your money for a real AEG, you can got it for a good price on Double Edge or Rangers.

Greylocks December 23rd, 2005 19:32

Bob, you know the $600 is a ballpark figure by the time you have a gun, decent charger, ammo, batteries, extra mags. Yes there are exceptions. But the point is still valid.

SF December 23rd, 2005 19:52

Let's not rain on Shooter's parade. It's his toy, his hard earned money & he is very happy with it. That in itself is priceless.

Ah... that's quite true. For 2 guns, BDUs, and just about all my kit, I've just passed the 1000 checkpoint.
As for Shooter, I respect that. It's his hard-earned money, and he can practice with it until he has enough for a proper AEG.
PS: If it is hard to read this thread, I've edited out a lot of my responses. Trying to keep my post-count down, it seems that I've forgotten about forum ettiquete.

Vryheid December 23rd, 2005 20:46

Is it just me or is it odd that in most cases airsoft guns costs more than the real weapon they try to copy.

It's true. A real AK47, full auto, sells for about $350 Canadian dollars. You can get an M16 (civilian version) for about $500-$700. An MP5 for around $500. A tommy-gun is between $300 to $400.

skaterjoe December 24th, 2005 12:11

i think its mostly in canada that airsoft out prices legal real steel.
and then again, i think the guns that are out priced are the lower end ones like the norincos and such.
Note: i was talking about legal guns, im sure illegal guns are much cheaper than airsoft.

gamer123 December 24th, 2005 12:32

350CAD for real AK47? Are you kidding? Damn, but does any store actually sell it?

I was quoting legal prices. Getting the proper license for them is the problem.

Why would I be kidding? Yes, they are available. Yes, at a store.

What did you think? That I get information from my local smuggler?

And the reason they are sold for so cheap is because
A: No one can use them once their SAP expires.
B: You need to have the appropriate PAL to aquire them

So take those prices with a grain of salt.

Greylocks December 24th, 2005 23:48

Prices are correct. So is the slight 'problem' of having the right level of PAL.
But I was being cruel and wanted him to at least try using Google first.

(Correction, just checked the website and the AK has gone up to $575, brand new. They were $350 last summer. Still nice deals on MP40, M1A1, MP5, RPK, Bren, MG34, even the Browning M2).

How about 3-4 bottles of vodka for an AK :)? Or one round for one smoke. Of course that doesn't happen here.

Maybe, if a gun has couple of bodies on it, otherwise it'll be more expensive than airsoft.

Shooter January 3rd, 2006 15:26

Ok, for all u guys who wanted to see my gun, my camera is now working and I've uploaded some pics of it to the gallery. thx

mirage13 January 3rd, 2006 15:58

Does his gun count as Airsoft? Or even Softair?

sherlockbonez January 3rd, 2006 17:20

His gun count as busted in about 3 shots.

Shooter January 4th, 2006 16:23

Of course it counts as airsoft or softair! just cause I cant spare $500 on airsoft doesnt meen I cant try to play airsoft, or at least practice on my friend's parents' farm.

Edit: I have shot more than 500 rds so far and its fine!
